The Reality Is, We Need Oil

The Reality Is, We Need Oil

If Democrats are left to their desires, America will soon resemble Spain. Its government forced green jobs onto the economy and the result was for every one green job created, the private sector lost two. Spain’s green industry caused energy prices to skyrocket and businesses found it too expensive to produce. The added costs were passed to the consumer and the economy naturally contracted. The result is an unemployment rate at 20 percent and political paralysis

and unless someone re-invents impulse drive, we will continue to need it.

Remington Nickel Plated UMC 9mm Ammo Review

Today was a first! This is my first ever, breaking new ground, never been done before, product review.

A few weeks ago, the nice folks at Lucky Gunner Ammo emailed me,
Also, I see that you shoot 9mm… would you like to test some of the new nickel plated stuff by Remington? An informal, laid back review sharing your opinion of the new line is fine with me: http://www.luckygunner.com/remington-nickel-plated-umc-target-ammo-review.
And I, with much kewlness, replied,
Um...WOW. I would love to, BUT...
See... the problem is that Henrico County, Virginia is horrible about zoning for firearm related business. Gun cooties, you see....

The only range in the area is in a neighboring county and they make you buy all the ammo that you shoot from them, that day or they seal what you buy for later shooting. Monopolies are like that....

Enter The Smoking Gun. Owned by Jeff Picchi, The Smoking Gun Range welcomes all shooters AND THEIR AMMO. Clean, well lit, with helpful staff, my range time was both economical and fun. The 60 mile round trip was well worth the time and gas. Cheaper too.

And so on to the review!

What was my first reaction to the Remington Nickel Plated UMC Target Ammunition?

Shiny.

Very shiny. I almost did not want to get fingerprints on them.

Being that I have some old ammo, I can see how the nickel plating would definitely reduce verdigris from developing during exposure to moisture in an ammo belt or during long term storage, especially in a marine environment.

Stats for the round can be found here.

I brought my two 9 mm hand guns with me. One a modern Glock 17. The other is a venerable war veteran, a 1943 Browning FN HP Mk I, made in Inglis, Canada.

For comparison, I also brought along Winchester 9mm Luger Target/Range ammo. Both brands have the 115 grain bullet.

Loading 10 rounds per magazine, I fired two magazines through each pistol for each brand.
One of the qualities being touted for the Remington was " smoother feeding and cycling of a weapon." Unfortunately, firing only 50 rounds total through both weapons was insufficient to determine if there was a difference between brass and nickel plated. More testing is needed...... (yes...its shameless begging! I admit it!)

The results are:
Using the Browning: two failures to feed with the Winchester ammo - one each per mag and one stovepipe with the Remington ammo. However, I do not believe the ammo was at fault.

Using the Glock: no failures at all.

And because my shooting SUCKED,......all I will say is that accuracy with both brands was adequate. Without thinking about it, I threw my target away....D'OH! Didn't think about it until I was 25 miles down the road. What can I say? This is my first review.

At ten yards, freestanding, both the Remington and the Winchester performed as expected. I shoot left of the bull with both the Glock and Browning.......and that is exactly where it went. Most of it was in the black.... I did seem to have a smaller grouping with the Remington....

I finished it off, mixing both brands together, to see how Remington would feed with mixed rounds. Did a rapid fire with the Glock. No failures.

I finished off the testing, determined to bring my confidence up by shooting something other than a 9 mm. So I broke out my Bersa Thunder (Go Breda!) and my Ruger .22.

AAaaaaahhh....bullseyes......

In a related matter,
To those trying to introduce others, (like your wife...you know who you are), to shooting, and you discover that your wife is...shall we say... recoil sensitive....find a .22 pistol. My lane neighbor was trying to introduce a gun phobic wife to shooting. His first round out of the 9mm Ruger made her jump back 4 feet. And when SHE shot...I could feel the flinch in MY booth.

So I lent her my Ruger .22 for 20 rounds. By the last five rounds, she was shooting them without help and no flinching.

Even got a smile. Welcome to the shooting world.

Disclaimer:
Please note that Lucky Gunner Ammo provided me with the box of Remington ammunition I used in this review, and I will be at the Memorial Day blogger shoot this weekend. WOOHOO!

Remember, this weekend, take a moment to remember those that have sacrificed their lives to defend us. Its not all about shooting, Bar-B-Q, and a three day weekend. We still have guys out there that don't get a day off.

Obama supports HAMAS on Israeli borders

Israel is a thorn. Its existence irks the Arabic world. It was created out of whole cloth in 1948, out of British controlled territory. The State of Palestine was also created in 1948. The Arabs rejected it. Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan attacked Israel, launching the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. 700,000 "palestinians" fled or were ejected. They were the enemy.

Today, the Arabs of the Palestinian territories demand a state, something that they rejected twice before. They demand a "right of return to settle within ISRAELI borders, though they and their ancestors can be considered enemies of Israel. They left to allow attacking armies to kill Israelis. They are treated as refugees in ARABIC countries and are not allowed to assimilate and yet they blame the Jews for their situation. The current situation is of THEIR making.

In 1949, Israel signed an Armistice, almost derailed by the Muslim Brotherhood, with the warring Arab states, delineating the lines of control of the various participating countries. Lebanon withdrew behind its recognized border. Egypt withdrew, but kept control of Gaza. Jordan kept control of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and formally annexed the West Bank and East Jerusalem on April 24, 1950, giving all residents automatic Jordanian citizenship. West Bank residents had already received the right to claim Jordanian citizenship in December 1949. This, however, was rejected by all nations, except Great Britain. The US State Department also recognized the extension of Jordanian sovereignty.

So, how was Jordan's stewardship of East Jerusalem?

Jordan, although mandated by the UN to let Israeli Jews visit their holy sites, refused access to them. They also led a systematic destruction of the Jewish Quarter including many ancient synagogues. Under Jordanian rule of East Jerusalem, all Israelis (irrespective of their religion) were forbidden from entering the Old City and other holy sites. The Jewish Cemetery on the Mount of Olives was desecrated, with gravestones used to build latrines for Jordanian army barracks, and almost every synagogue was demolished in the period from 1948 to 1967.

Palestinian Arabs continued to cause trouble during this "peaceful" period, including the assassination of King Abdullah I of Jordan because they believed he was seeking a formal peace treaty with Israel.

And thus matters stood until the Six Day War in 1967, caused by Egypt's hostile blockades and the removal of peacekeepers. Jordan, instead of remaining neutral, attacked through the West Bank, and was pushed back. The Arab nations lost again. Israel occupied the West Bank as a protective buffer. Jordan ceded all claims to the West Bank in 1988, handing it to the Palestinian Liberation Organization, recognizing them as the sole representatives of the "Palestinian" people.

The PLO has conducted thousands of terrorist attacks against innocent civilians in Israel. They have rejected any peace treaties and walked out on a treaty formalizing a state in 2000. Do you think that they would be any better at allowing access to East Jerusalem than the Jordanians? Today, Christians and Christian holy sites are in danger in the West Bank. The Christians in Bethlehem have been terrorized into fleeing the town. Churches have been desecrated.

To the north is Syria and Lebanon. The KEY location on the border of Syria is the Golan Heights. From there, Syria was able to shell villages inside Israel with impunity. Seized in the Six Day War, the Heights provide a defensive buffer against further Syrian aggression.

The situation in Lebanon is complex. The terrorist organization, Hezbollah, is a major political and military power in the country. Repeated terrorist and military strikes by Hezbollah continue. Inside Lebanon, those that oppose Hezbollah politically are killed. Christians inside Lebanon are continually persecuted or attacked.

And then we come to the terrorist organization known as HAMAS.

Based largely on the principles of Islamic fundamentalism gaining momentum throughout the Arab world in the 1980s, Hamas was founded in 1987 as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (Remember them?). Co-founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin stated in 1987, and the Hamas Charter affirmed in 1988, that Hamas was founded to liberate Palestine from Israeli occupation and to establish an Islamic state in the area that is now Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. However, in July 2009, Khaled Meshal, Hamas's Syrian-based political bureau chief, said the organization was willing to cooperate with "a resolution to the Arab-Israeli conflict which included a Palestinian state based on 1967 borders," provided that Palestinian refugees hold the right to return to Israel and that East Jerusalem be the new nation's capital.

These are the principle of HAMAS. This and their charter have NEVER been changed.

"Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." (The Martyr, Imam Hassan al-Banna, of blessed memory).

"The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future Muslim generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered: it, or any part of it, should not be given up. "

"There is no solution for the Palestinian question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors."

"After Palestine, the Zionists aspire to expand from the Nile to the Euphrates. When they will have digested the region they overtook, they will aspire to further expansion, and so on. Their plan is embodied in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", and their present conduct is the best proof of what we are saying."

And so, now we have a president of the United States agreeing with terrorist organizations that want to wipe the nation of Israel from the map. President Obama states,

So while the core issues of the conflict must be negotiated, the basis of those negotiations is clear: a viable Palestine, and a secure Israel. The United States believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine. The borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states. The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state.

What "core issues" can be negotiated with the PLO and HAMAS? How does one negotiate with someone whose stated purpose is your death? ITS IN THEIR CHARTER! What "mutually agreed swaps" can be negotiated when Israel is supposed to unilaterally retreat to the pre-1967 borders? When Israel gave up control of the Gaza, the world was told that there would be "peace in our time." HAMAS uses that land to launch rockets. They celebrate the murder of children.

Israel withdrew from "contested" territory to appease Hezbollah. The rockets still rain down.

FATAH, the political arm of the PLO controls the West Bank. It is only the conflict with HAMAS that has driven FATAH to peace talks.

FATAH and HAMAS are now agreeing to cooperate.

The Muslim Brotherhood, founded by a Nazi sympathizer, is poised to greatly influence Egypt, if not gain control. They wish to cancel the peace treaty with Israel and declare war. President Obama wants to cancel $1 billion dollars in debt and give them billions more. President Obama cheers peaceful coexistence and yet wants to finance an organization known for killing Christians and burning churches. They are infamous for terror attacks throughout Egypt. Offshoots of the Muslim Brotherhood include Al Quaeda.

And he wants to give them billions.

Furthermore, either President Obama is delusional or incompetent. Or he's just talking for election cameras:

As for security, every state has the right to self-defense, and Israel must be able to defend itself – by itself – against any threat. Provisions must also be robust enough to prevent a resurgence of terrorism; to stop the infiltration of weapons; and to provide effective border security. The full and phased withdrawal of Israeli military forces should be coordinated with the assumption of Palestinian security responsibility in a sovereign, non-militarized state. The duration of this transition period must be agreed, and the effectiveness of security arrangements must be demonstrated.

These principles provide a foundation for negotiations. Palestinians should know the territorial outlines of their state; Israelis should know that their basic security concerns will be met. I know that these steps alone will not resolve this conflict. Two wrenching and emotional issues remain: the future of Jerusalem, and the fate of Palestinian refugees.

"Provisions must also be robust enough to prevent a resurgence of terrorism; to stop the infiltration of weapons; and to provide effective border security." Is he serious? Israel cannot do this NOW. If they agree to his terms, security will be impossible. Obama is essentially relying on the "good will" of terror organizations that have never wavered from their stated intent to destroy Israel. And why did he insert and emphasize "by itself" into the speech?

Of course, all of this is just theater. Obama will say anything to get elected. Proof? Here's his speech in 2008 when he was seeking the support of AIPAC. Some telling excerpts:

Before I begin, I want to say that I know some provocative e-mails have been circulating throughout Jewish communities across the country. A few of you may have gotten them. They're filled with tall tales and dire warnings about a certain candidate for president. And all I want to say is — let me know if you see this guy named Barack Obama, because he sounds pretty frightening.

Its a shame that they didn't heed those emails.

But 60 years later, we know that we cannot relent, we cannot yield, and as president I will never compromise when it comes to Israel's security.

Not when there are still voices that deny the Holocaust. Not when there are terrorist groups and political leaders committed to Israel's destruction. Not when there are maps across the Middle East that don't even acknowledge Israel's existence, and government-funded textbooks filled with hatred toward Jews. Not when there are rockets raining down on Sderot, and Israeli children have to take a deep breath and summon uncommon courage every time they board a bus or walk to school.

And he wants to hand Israel's security to those people that draw those maps.

The long road to peace requires Palestinian partners committed to making the journey. We must isolate Hamas unless and until they renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist, and abide by past agreements. There is no room at the negotiating table for terrorist organizations.
Except, of course, when there is.

And then, he lied. If we had only known then, what, "Let me be clear...." meant.
Let me be clear. Israel's security is sacrosanct. It is non-negotiable. The Palestinians need a state that is contiguous and cohesive, and that allows them to prosper — but any agreement with the Palestinian people must preserve Israel's identity as a Jewish state, with secure, recognized and defensible borders. Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.

Undivided.

Still believe him? Maybe those emails were right.

Remember, if peace was truly desired, all it would take would be for the enemies of Israel to lay down their arms. Peace would ensue. If Israel lays down THEIR arms, another holocaust would result.

Shalom.

Heaven Has Three New Angels

Last Wednesday, in Texarkana TX, some lowlife scumsucking asswipe murdered a good friend of mine and both of her children. Then the lowlife scumsucking asswipe set fire to her house to cover up the act.

Amanda Prewett Doss was the most incredible person I've ever worked with. I met her in 2006 at the Veterans for the Truth/BootMurtha Rally in Johnstown PA. We immediately became friends. She was a tireless advocate for veterans, POW/MIA issues and she absolutely hated Murtha and Kerry, which immediately earned her a place in my heart. She was beautiful physically and mentally. She believed in what she did.

She was a Soldiers Angel before the concept was ever thought of. Her support for Viet Nam veterans and the issues those veterans dealt with is legndary in our circles.

Sh never failed to make it to DC when it was needed. She helped me with my two pro-troop rallies and was a Founding Member of Gathering of Eagles. She was also a founding member of Operation Streetcorner.

I can't understand the mind of anyone who does evil against another. It is just unbelievable that someone would do evil against Amanda or her children. The person or persons responsible for the murder of Amanda and both her chidren has an asswhipping of monumental proportions coming at some point in the future. Justice will take its course, but vengence is delivered by God. He has special plans for the ones who caused this beautiful Lady and her two children such grief and horror.

Thats Why We Voted For Him

HUMAN EVENTS had the opportunity to sit down with Gov. Robert McDonnell of Virginia for an exclusive interview at his Richmond office to discuss how he inherited two budget shortfalls in the billions, but maneuvered his way to producing a budget … surplus!

And revenues to the government increased.

And unemployment is hovering at 6%, way below the national average.

Oh, and he did it by not raising taxes.

Basically, Gov. McDonnell is a walking refutation of the liberal notion that spending and borrowing create wealth.

“You have to make those tough cuts, endure political criticism, knowing that in the long run your state is going to be healthier,” McDonnell told us. “I realize that government doesn’t create jobs, and the ones that they do they are not really the ones you want. You want the private sector ones, innovative jobs that are long-term going to grow the economy.”

Here’s him telling us how he’s eliminated government agencies, courted business development, and even cut the allegedly untouchable category of education funding.

Michele Bachmann Tea Party

Michele Bachmann Earmarks Tea Party The Daily Caller

This is a hit piece from a supposedly conservative news outlet. As one commenter so eloquently stated:

Another RINO hack job/hit piece by Matt: Matt has Karl Rove’s cell # for sure.

Farm subsidies are a nonissue; the farm is in a trust, the farm is legally entitled to them; the Feds have gotten their mitts into everything, you can’t be a farm unless you take the fed regulations and the price supports as well, otherwise, farms would not be competitive. Did the farm take subsidies that they were NOT entitled to? That would be a story.

Tea Party people don’t want legislators to legislate, I don’t care if she hasn’t gotten huge legislative laws passed, we need to repeal hundreds of them before even passing one. According to Matt she is about equal with her other classmates anyhow. Non issue.

Uh, Matt, bond issues for State Senators is not pork if it benefits the whole local area; highways are normal things state legislators fund…that’s not pork or even an earmark.

She admitted she was wrong in supporting a previous pardon request, sounds like a honest and humble person. Can the same be said for ANY Democrat EVER admitting they were wrong?

Let the voters decide who the nominee will be, not Karl Rove and his milk-toast big government welfare state wanna-bees. Tea Party rules.

Cain, Palin, and West are my choices for ‘12.
LTC Allen West is not going to be contender this time around, but watch 2016, if we make it that long.
Herman Cain, paired with Sarah or Michelle, would be a powerhouse ticket and could win.
Newt needs to take his carnival act back to Georgia and pretend he doesn't think.

Some Folks Aint Happy, No Sir, Not Happy At All

When will Obama crack in public?
Mychal Massie
April 19, 2011

At a time when many Americans can barely afford Burger King and a movie, Obama boasts of spending a billion dollars on his re-election campaign. Questioned at a recent appearance about the spiraling fuel costs, Obama said, "Get used to it" – and with an insouciant grin and chortle, he told another person at the event, who complained about the effect high fuel prices were having on his family, to "get a more fuel-efficient car."

The Obamas behave as if they were sharecroppers living in a trailer and hit the Powerball, but instead of getting new tires for their trailer and a new pickup truck, they moved to Washington . And instead of making possum pie, with goats and chickens in the front yard, they're spending and living large at taxpayer expense – opulent vacations, gala balls, resplendent dinners and exclusive command performances at the White House, grand date nights, golf, basketball, more golf, exclusive resorts and still more golf.

Expensive, ill-fitting and ill-chosen wigs and fashions hardly befit the first lady of the United States . The Obamas have behaved in every way but presidential – which is why it's so offensive when we hear Obama say, in order "to restore fiscal responsibility, we all need to share in the sacrifice – but we don't have to sacrifice the America we believe in."

The American people have been sacrificing; it is he and his family who are behaving as if they've never had two nickels to rub together – and now, having hit the mother lode, they're going to spend away their feelings of inadequacy at the taxpayers' expense.

Obama continues to exhibit behavior that, at best, can be described as mobocratic and, at worst, reveals a deeply damaged individual. In a February 2010 column, I asked, "Is Obama unraveling?" I wrote that it was beginning to appear the growing mistrust of him and contempt for his policies was beginning to have a destabilizing effect on him.

At that time, I wrote that not having things go one's way can be a bitter pill, but reasonable people don't behave as he was behaving. He had insulted Republicans at their luncheon, where he had been an invited guest. I had speculated that was, in part, what had led him to falsely accuse Supreme Court justices before Congress, the nation and the world, during the 2010 State of the Union address.

It appeared, at that time, as if he were "fraying around the emotional edges." That behavior has not abated – it has become more pronounced.. While addressing the nation, after being forced to explain the validity of his unilateral aggression with Libya , America witnessed a petulant individual scowling and scolding the public for daring to insist he explain his actions.

But during an afternoon speech to address the budget/debt, he took his scornful, unstable despotic behavior to depths that should give the nation cause for concern. Displaying a dark psychopathy more representative of an episode of "The Tudors" television series, he invited Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., to sit in the front row during his speech and then proceeded to berate both Ryan and Ryan's budget-cutting plan. Even liberal Democrats were put off by the act. MSNBC's Joe Scarborough questioned the sanity of Obama's actions.

Today, criticism is coming from all sides. A senior Democrat lawmaker said, "I have been very disappointed in [Obama], to the point where I'm embarrassed that I endorsed him. It's so bad that some of us are thinking, is there some way we can replace him? How do you get rid of this guy?" ("Democrats' Disgust with Obama," The Daily Beast, April 15, 2011)

Steve McCann wrote: Obama's speech "was chock full of lies, deceit and crass fear-mongering. It must be said that [he] is the most dishonest, deceitful and mendacious person in a position of power I have ever witnessed" ("The Mendacity of Barack Obama," AmericanThinker.com, April 15, 2011).

McCann continued: "[His] performance was the culmination of four years of outright lies and narcissism that have been largely ignored by the media, including some in the conservative press and political class who are loath to call [him] what he is in the bluntest of terms: a liar and a fraud. That he relies on his skin color to intimidate, either outright or by insinuation [against] those who oppose his radical agenda only add to his audacity. It is apparent that he has gotten away with his character flaws his entire life, aided and abetted by sycophants around him. …"

With these being among the kinder rebukes being directed at Obama, and with people becoming less intimidated by his willingness to use race as a bludgeon, with falling poll numbers in every meaningful category and an increasingly aggressive tea-party opposition – how much longer before he cracks completely?

The coming months of political life are not going to be pleasant for Obama. Possessed by a self-perceived palatine mindset, that in his mind places him above criticism, how long before he cracks in public? Can America risk a man with a documented track record of lying and misrepresenting truth as a basic way of life, who is becoming increasingly more contumelious?

2nd Amendment Foundation and the free exercise of your rights

The Second Amendment Foundation filed suit on May 10, 2011, to challenge the interstate handgun ban.

For Immediate Release: 5/10/2011

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation today filed suit in U.S. District Court in Virginia challenging the constitutionality of federal and Virginia provisions barring handgun sales to non-residents.

SAF is joined in the lawsuit by Michelle Lane, a District of Columbia resident who cannot legally purchase handguns because there are no retail firearms dealers inside the District. The Supreme Court’s 2008 Heller ruling struck down the District’s handgun ban, confirming that individuals have a constitutional right to possess handguns.

SAF and Lane are represented by attorney Alan Gura of Gura & Possessky, PLLC, who won both the Heller ruling and last year’s Supreme Court victory in McDonald v. City of Chicago. Named as defendants are Attorney General Eric Holder and W. Steven Flaherty, superintendent of the Virginia State Police.

“This is an important issue in the era of the national instant background check,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The NICS check should allow law-abiding citizens like Miss Lane to exercise their Second Amendment rights regardless their place of residence.”

“Americans don’t check their constitutional rights at the state line,” said Gura. “And since Michelle Lane is legally entitled to possess firearms, forcing her to seek a non-existing D.C. dealer to buy a handgun is pointless when perfectly legitimate options exist minutes across the Potomac River.”

“The Supreme Court has ruled that District residents have an individual right, protected by the Constitution, to have a handgun in their home,” Gottlieb noted. “The high court has also ruled that the Second Amendment applies to the states. Existing state and federal statutes violate both the spirit and letter of recent court rulings and the Constitution, and our lawsuit seeks to remedy that situation.”

Washington, DC is a federal district. It is part of NO state. The supreme authority over the district is the Congress of the United States. Congress is bound by the Constitution of the United States. Our rights are enumerated and guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. The right to keep and bear arms is expressed in the 2nd Amendment. And that right was recognized by the Supreme Court to apply to individuals.

District of Columbia v. Heller
, 554 U.S. 570 (2008), was a landmark case in which the Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects an individual's right to possess a firearm for private use within the home in federal enclaves. The decision did not address the question of whether the Second Amendment extends beyond federal enclaves to the states, which was addressed later by McDonald v. Chicago (2010) and determined that the right to keep and bear arms did apply to the states. It was the first Supreme Court case in United States history to decide whether the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms for self defense.

All of this background is important because, at one time, Washington, D.C. banned the private ownership of handguns by its residents and placed onerous restrictions on ownership of any other firearm. According to Firearms Control Regulation Act of 1975, portions of which were declared unconstitutional, DC required all firearms including rifles and shotguns be kept "unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock" and restricted residents from owning handguns except for those registered prior to 1975."

The results of the Heller case were not popular within the halls of power in Washington, D.C. and the authorities were quick to exert any and every power to stymie firearm ownership in the capitol. How hard is it to purchase a firearm in DC? Well....its impossible. There are no firearms stores in Washington, DC. The procedure for acquiring a firearm in DC is convoluted.

One must purchase a firearm in another state and have that firearm transferred to a FFL in DC. FFL is short for Federal Firearms License. The irony is that the SOLE FFL in Washington, DC is Josh Sugarmann, of the Violence Policy Center, an extreme gun control organization. He has advocated BANNING handguns.
FFL Ez Check

FFL # is 1-54-000-01-8C-00725
Its strange that he is allowed to have an FFL. He does not seem to be in the business of selling or transferring firearms as stated in the US code.

The Gun Control Act, as amended by The Firearms Owners` Protection Act of 1986 (P.L. 99-308), requires that persons engaged in the business of dealing in, manufacturing, or importing firearms, or manufacturing or importing ammunition, obtain a Federal Firearms License (FFL). The federal firearms licensing system is administered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice.

Under the Gun Control Act, a "dealer" is defined as any person who is "engaged in the business of selling firearms at wholesale or retail," "repairing firearms," or "making or fitting special barrels, stocks, or trigger mechanisms to firearms," or who is a pawnbroker.
You see, Mr. Charles Sykes was the only FFL in DC that actually operated a business, transferring firearms from out of state to DC purchasers. However, he recently lost his lease through rezoning. Now, understand, he had no inventory. All he did was facilitate the movement of legal private property from out of state to the citizens of Washington, DC.

Indirect bans on ownership have been placed on citizens in Washington, DC through the restrictions of FFL's and in Chicago by onerous and contradictory requirements for a firearm permit. Citizens, especially in DC, are prevented from exercising their rights by the laws preventing purchase of firearms by out of state residents, without a subsequent transfer through an FFL.

So, let's see what a national common denominator of FFL assisted purchases exist:

The right to keep and bear arms has been recognized to be an individual right under the Constitution of the United States.
Every purchaser of a firearm through an FFL has a background check through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS).

Some areas have further restrictions on ownership, such as registration, background checks for ALL purchases, etc. But a right to own a firearm is recognized throughout the nation.

Why shouldn't American citizens be allowed to exercise their rights equally throughout the nation? Are our rights to free expression and religious observation constrained differently from state to state? Why should the 2nd Amendment rights be treated differently from our 1st Amendment rights? Why can rights be abridged through local manipulations?

Jihadism IS the Muslim "Reformation" everyone has been waiting for.....

For years, Western nations have searched for the "moderate Muslim" that is needed to stage a "reformation" of Islam, in order to bring the religion into the modern, civilized world.

Westerners, including myself, have assumed that Islam would necessarily follow in the path of the Western religions and move away from medieval mores and assimilate into the modern world.

Apparently, I've been blind. The evidence has been before us for decades. And Mark Steyn has pointed it out in 2007: “What if we’ve already had the reformation of Islam and jihadism is it?”
What if we’ve already had the reformation of Islam and jihadism is it? It wasn’t just Seventies Bryn Mawr Muslims who were “moderates”. So were, comparatively, Muslims all over the world. The Sudan’s always been a nutty joint but you’d have had a harder time convincing anyone to jail an English schoolmarm over a teddy bear 50 years ago: The Prophet’s authoritative cuddly-toy suras date back all of 20 minutes.

And at one level the Islamist “reformation” makes perfect sense. After all, they look at Christianity’s reformation and see that everywhere but the United States it led to the ebbing of faith and its banishment to the fringes of life. The jihadist reformation is, as they see it, a rational response to the Christian one.

Well, .... crap.

And, of course, the liberals make every effort to banish faith and religion to the fringes in this country too.....

Power loves a vacuum.....

God Bless the 1st Amendment

Were it not for the 1st Amendment granting Americans the right to assemble and speak freely, we would not know about these useful union idiots, because they would have to meet and plot in secret, laying the groundwork for the overthrow of the government and those eeeeeevullllll capitalist corporations who are stealing the shoes off the feets of babies and then eating the babies.

The fact that shares of stock of those eeeevullll capitalist corporations are part of the retirement plans and pension funds of these useful union idiots, and that destroying those eeevullll capitalist corporations who are stealing shoes and eating babies will essentially destroy whatever plans for their golden years these useful union idiots have, seem to be lost on them.

Well what do you expect from an idiot?

I will say this, though: I'm working with a few union welders at the shipyard, from down Bamalama way, who are not real impressed with their union brothers and sisters are acting like idiots in public. (I did mention, in passing, that I didn't think it was an act). I doubt Bubba from Elba, or Clyde from Cherokee would pick up a commie flag and march in the streets.
My buddy Jonn over at This Aint Hell has more pictures and Zombie has a great post over at PJM

Obama’s Favorite Union Goes Full Communist

A May Day rally in Los Angeles, co-sponsored by the SEIU and various communist groups, as well as other unions, reflected yet another step in the normalization of self-identified communist and socialist ideologies in the Obama era. Not only did the SEIU help to organize the rally in conjunction with communists, they marched side-by-side with communists, while union members carried communist flags, communists carried union signs, and altogether there was no real way to tell the two apart.

Southern California citizen journalist and photographer “Ringo” was on hand to record the day’s events, and posted a full-length photo essay on his site Ringo’s Pictures. To bring this important photo essay to a wider audience, I present here a small selection of Ringo’s May Day pictures; visit his site to see dozens more photos from the rally.

Obama- Still Bad At Math

First it was 57 states.

Now, 670 miles equals 2000 miles.

Apparently, the only math that Obama understands is that connected to fund raising. Because he didn't want to pay for the trip, Obama attached a quick side trip to pander to illegal aliens in El Paso while he went to Texas to raise money for his re-election campaign.

I was going to write something up, but, I couldn't match Katie Pavlich's take on the pandering and the lies that were contained in his speech. This is why Ms. Pavlich writes for Town Hall and I don't. Some excerpts:
Obama took credit for confiscating 64 percent more weapons than ever before. Well, that's what happens when the federal government sends thousands of guns into Mexico in the first place through Operation Fast and Furious under the Obama Justice Department and ATF, of course it becomes easier to confiscate more guns when you put more into an area to begin with.
His geography is as bad as his math....
On another note, Obama asked the audience if he needed to build a moat on the border to make republicans happy. There is already a moat on the border Mr. President, it's called the Rio Grande.
He mentioned the previous amnesty bill, the DREAM ACT, again, where the children of illegal aliens would gain citizenship through going to college or joining the military. Ms. Pavlich reports,
Or as Obama put it, "Stop punishing children for their parents' mistakes." "
I wonder how President Obama correlates THAT statement with his position on abortion.......

Oh. No. He. Didn't.

Obama opposed the war on terror.

Obama opposed the surge in Iraq, in fact the entire theater action.

Obama opposed Bush's policies.

Obama declared an END to the War on Terror.

Obama attempted to treat terrorists, unlawful combatants, as common criminals and close Guantanamo Bay.

Obama is STILL prosecuting those possibly involved in enhanced interrogations, actions that resulted the killing of Bin Laden.

Obama ignores the current troops STILL in Iraq, saying HE brought the troops home from Iraq, ignoring that it happened on BUSH'S timetable and plan.

Obama dithered about reinforcing Afghanistan, reluctantly agreeing to a piecemeal "surge" far smaller than requested.

Obama surrendered in Afghanistan, telling the Taliban our exit date, regardless of developments on the ground.

Obama, THANK GOD, realized that HIS plans were idiotic, and have reluctantly continued President Bush's policies.

If we had followed Obama's stated policies, Osama Bin Laden would still be alive today.

And yet, President Obama has the gall to use the killing of OBL as an fund raising tactic.

At a fund raising speech in Austin, Texas, following a hypocritical illegal amnesty speech in El Paso, (emphasis mine)
Early in Obama's appearance, someone shouted out, “Thank you for getting Bin Laden!’’

Obama said that was a “case in point’’ – a reason for voters to let him “finish what we started.’’

....Obama ticked off what he described as his administration’s accomplishments: lifting the ban on gays in the military; bringing troops home from Iraq.

"FINISH WHAT WE STARTED?" Finish what WE started? Who is this "WE" that you speak of, President Obama? YOU don't even believe we're IN a freaking war! Its not "terrorism." Its "man caused disasters." Its not Islamists or Jihadists. Its...well, actually, you don't say...because your people never admit to motivations behind the attacks. And what's this about YOU bringing the troops home from Iraq? The troops that came home, did so on a timetable previously arranged by President Bush. THERE ARE STILL TROOPS IN IRAQ IN HARM'S WAY. Twenty-one soldiers have died IN COMBAT since June of last year. But YOU brought the troops home....ok, then.

Thanks for joining the game, but, remember, YOU refused to be a starter on the team. You rejected and reviled American actions. President Bush was a criminal in your eyes. Giving you credit for getting anything done on the War is like giving credit to Richard Nixon for getting us to the moon, AFTER he campaigned on closing NASA.

Cheap Oil=Leisure Time=Creativity=New Stuff

The search for alternative forms of energy is something that has to be done, if for no other reason than it would be cool as hell to be the one who invents impulse power, hyper-drive systems or hydrogen powered generators. The trick is to create the environment that allows people the freedom to let their creative juices flow unchecked. Americans create things when they are free to explore the limits of technology. You don't have that freedom if you're spending every waking minute, and every dollar you earn, trying to make a living and pay bills, and you have nothing left after completing those basic tasks. Cheap oil gives Americans the freedom to explore. It is a neccessary component of that environment we need to create. It gives us the leisure time we need to explore, play, create and develop.

Obama and Reid offer hot air, not cheaper gas

With gas prices hovering at $4 a gallon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada reportedly wants a Senate vote this week on a measure to punish oil companies by denying them $21 billion in tax credits and deductions routinely given to other businesses. At President Obama's request, Reid would instead use the money to fund alternative energy development projects that the Energy Information Administration says won't be able to replace fossil fuels to any significant degree for two to three decades

Methinks They Doth Protest TOO Much

Former Pakistan President Musharaff took power on 12 October 1999 through a bloodless military coup d'etat on the democratically elected government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. On 18 August 2008, Pervez Musharraf resigned under impeachment pressure from the coalition government.

1999-2008

Let that sink in....

Obama's compound/hideaway/prison was built about 6 years ago.....2005/6 - ish?

Musharaff ran that country as a military dictatorship. He professed to be an American ally in the war. He was given BILLIONS in return for his ........ assistance.

And now, he's protesting our raid to kill the one man that everyone was looking for, who was living 30 miles from the capitol, across the street from a police station, and 1000 feet away from Musharaff's premier MILITARY ACADEMY.....

The former military strongman told the expatriate Pakistan community in Dubai that all "peace loving people" should be happy that bin Laden was killed, but no Pakistani accepted the violation of their sovereignty.

"...no country will accept such a violation by the US, which undermines Pakistan's sovereignty, army and intelligence," Musharraf was quoted as saying in The National daily. "This is not acceptable to any Pakistani individual."

Of course, any knowledge of OBL's whereabouts was a complete mystery to him, even as the Pakistani intelligence services have continued to assist the Taliban.

In an interview with the National Public Radio in the US, Musharraf had on Friday blamed incompetence by his country's intelligence agencies for allowing Al-Qaeda leader to live undetected in Pakistan for years.

"One can draw only two conclusions," Musharraf told NPR. "One is complicity from our intelligence agencies. The second is incompetence and I strongly believe in the latter," Musharraf said.

"I cannot imagine that there was complicity."

No. Of course not. He's shocked! Shocked, I tell you, to see OBL living comfortably in Pakistan. Nice way to keep that money flowing.....

And now we find out that Musharaff made an agreement with President Bush about the possibility of this very raid.... a secret agreement. What was he saying in that interview above? "This is not acceptable to any Pakistani individual."

Yep, unless he stands to make billions of dollars in aid.......

The US and Pakistan struck a secret deal almost a decade ago permitting a US operation against Osama bin Laden on Pakistani soil similar to last week's raid that killed the al-Qaida leader, the Guardian has learned.

The deal was struck between the military leader General Pervez Musharraf and President George Bush after Bin Laden escaped US forces in the mountains of Tora Bora in late 2001, according to serving and retired Pakistani and US officials.

Under its terms, Pakistan would allow US forces to conduct a unilateral raid inside Pakistan in search of Bin Laden, his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, and the al-Qaida No3. Afterwards, both sides agreed, Pakistan would vociferously protest the incursion.

"There was an agreement between Bush and Musharraf that if we knew where Osama was, we were going to come and get him," said a former senior US official with knowledge of counterterrorism operations. "The Pakistanis would put up a hue and cry, but they wouldn't stop us."

Its just a coincidence that his agreement has suddenly surfaced after the Pakistan Intelligence Services attempted to reveal the name of the CIA station chief in Islamabad......

I Thought Unions Were About Protecting Jobs

Obama's Attack on Private Industry
You might think that a U.S. company's decision to expand its manufacturing facilities and create 1,000 new jobs here at home -- rather than overseas -- would be hailed by the Obama Administration as a step in the right direction, especially with nine percent unemployment. You'd be wrong. Instead, President Barack Obama's National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is doing all it can to throw a wrench in the machinery of private industry.

The story begins with Boeing Corporation's decision to build a new assembly plant in Charleston, South Carolina, in order to produce the 787 Dreamliner, the company's fastest selling airliner. (To date, Boeing has 800 planes on order.) The NLRB, which is charged with remedying unfair labor practices, got wind of the decision and last month filed a complaint against Boeing, alleging that the company decided to build the plant in South Carolina out of retaliation for union strikes at its Washington state facilities.

Those locations have caused difficulties for Boeing. The International Association of Machinists (IAM) regularly goes on strike during contract negotiations, causing Boeing to miss orders and costing it billions in lost business. Boeing considered building its new plant in Washington, but the IAM refused to sign a long-term no-strike agreement. That played a role in Boeing's decision to expand into South Carolina, a right-to-work state with a good business and tax climate, as Heritage's Rea Hederman, Jr., and James Sherk explain.

The NLRB's actions are drawing strong criticism from Republicans in the U.S Senate. "It's clearly outside of the authority of this federal government to be threatening and bullying and trying to intimidate companies like Boeing who should have the freedom to locate their plants anywhere they want. It's intimidation," Senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said Wednesday. DeMint joined with 18 senators in writing a letter to the president last week condemning the NLRB's complaint:
We consider this an attack on millions of workers in 22 right-to-work states, as well as a government-led act of intimidation against American companies that should have the freedom to choose to build plants in right-to-work states.

If the NLRB prevails, it will only encourage companies to make their investments in foreign nations, moving jobs and economic growth overseas. America will not win the future if Washington penalizes workers in states that have discovered winning economic strategies.

But in a White House where the cozy relationship between big labor and big government couldn't be any closer, the NLRB's moves are just the Obama administration's latest effort to come to the defense of the union machine. And it's also a direct shot at private industry's freedom to make fundamental business decisions, which has serious consequences for the U.S. economy.

Hederman and Sherk write:
If the Obama Administration succeeds, it will chill business investment. Unions raise business costs and discourage employers from investing and expanding. Studies consistently show that unionized employers create fewer jobs than non-union employers. Forcing businesses to invest in states with bad business climates will cause them to scale back their investments. It might create a few more jobs for union members, but will mean fewer jobs and higher unemployment in the economy overall.

President Obama has remained silent on the issue, with a White House official maintaining that the NLRB's complaint is an "independent agency's enforcement action." Governor Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) isn't satisfied and has a pointed question for the president, as National Review Online reports.

I want to ask him why he is allowing unelected bureaucrats to come in and do the unions' dirty work on the backs of our businesses . . . It's hurting the jobs in South Carolina and every other right-to-work state. He owes us an answer."The answer to Haley's question can be found in the Obama-big labor alliance. If the Obama NLRB prevails, it will have struck a significant blow against right-to-work states by significantly expanding labor's ability to dictate where companies do business, all while solidifying their base of political power. The losers, unfortunately, will be private industry, job seekers and the U.S. economy.
