I expect nothing less from the mind of a deranged psychopath. I think we'll be there on the sidelines, with cameras, documenting the jackwagon antics of anyone crazy enough to actually do this. Kokesh is a self-promoting egotistical asshat who believes the things the little groupies tell him when the lights go out and the bowl gets passed. He's in for a huge surprise with his plan for a march with no permit and loaded weapons. Arlington County controls the pavement and the US Park Service controls the green areas. Anyone care to wager how long either uniformed law enforcement will tolerate this? I give 'em 5 minutes and then the busses start rolling.

Libertarian activist and radio host Adam Kokesh is hoping to get 1,000 people to march on Washington on July 4 — armed with loaded rifles. The plan, launched with a Facebook group today, is to gather on the Virginia side of the Potomac, where gun laws are lax, and then march across the bridge with loaded rifles slung over their shoulders into the District, where openly carrying weapons is generally prohibited.

“This will be a non-violent event,” the Facebook group warns, “unless the government chooses to make it violent.” Already, over 200 people have said they’ll attend the march.  

Here’s the message:

On the morning of July 4, 2013, Independence Day, we will muster at the National Cemetery & at noon we will step off to march across the Memorial Bridge, down Independence Avenue, around the Capitol, the Supreme Court, & the White House, then peacefully return to Virginia across the Memorial Bridge. This is an act of civil disobedience, not a permitted event. We will march with rifles loaded & slung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated & cower in submission to tyranny. We are marching to mark the high water mark of government & to turn the tide. This will be a non-violent event, unless the government chooses to make it violent. Should we meet physical resistance, we will peacefully turn back, having shown that free people are not welcome in Washington, & returning with the resolve that the politicians, bureaucrats, & enforcers of the federal government will not be welcome in the land of the free.

Congratulations to the Hammer and the 2nd Luckiest Man on the Planet

Jake the Nail now holds the position of 2nd Luckiest Man in the known universe. (When I die, he will be 1st.)

The Hammer tied the knot with her beau Jake on Saturday in Mineral VA. Uncle J was there and I'm sure he has pictures and vids somewhere. The Hammer looked more beautiful than evah!!!

I hope ya'll have a long and happy life, that you are as happy as I have been in my marriage, and that Saturday was the worst day you'll ever have.

I got a text from Uncle J around midnight Saturday telling me that our gifts to the newlyweds consisted of a jar of UncleJimBob's Bourbon-Garlic BBQ Sauce from our 1st production run for the happy couple and an orange jumpsuit for the groom, to remind him of what will happen if he makes her sad. Hate America Weekend-The Wrap

I may have more to say about the Charlie Foxtrot that was Joplin Road and US Rt 1 on Sunday. I saw millions in state tax dollars being wasted on a bunch of losers with a megaphone exercising their right to be stupid in public. There were 5 seperate LEA's on site today: VA State Police; Prince William County Police; Park Service Police (Mounted); Marine Corps MP's; and what I can only assume were DHS agents. I would never have allowed those clowns to pull the stunt they pulled by closing down a primary North-South corridor.

Gates On the F-35

Uncle Jimbo has a piece in the WashTimes trying to decide who won this debate between SecDef Gates and SecDef Gates:

Robert M. Gates is on his farewell lap as secretary of defense and is making his final speeches to the service academies. He also seems to be debating himself in the process. He made the following remarks to Army cadets at West Point:

“And I must tell you, when it comes to predicting the nature and location of our next military engagements, since Vietnam, our record has been perfect. We have never once gotten it right, from the Mayaguez to Grenada, Panama, Somalia, the Balkans, Haiti, Kuwait, Iraq and more - we had no idea a year before any of these missions that we would be so engaged."

“The need for heavy armor and firepower to survive, close with and destroy the enemy will always be there, as veterans of Sadr City and Fallujah can no doubt attest.”

As Jimbo so eloquently states, "Thats common sense right there"

He [Gates] also said this:

“In my opinion, any future defense secretary who advises the president to again send a big American land army into Asia or into the Middle East or Africa should ‘have his head examined,’ as Gen. MacArthur so delicately put it.”

So now we've eliminated two whole continents and the center of Islamic extremism.

Now Lets hear the SecDef at the Air Force Academy:

GoE and Warrior Legacy Back At Walter Reed

Thanks to a very generous and thoughtful donation from the Band of Mothers, Gathering of Eagles was able to present a brand new laptop to a Staff Sergeant with 9 (NINE!!) deployments under his helmet. Dedicated Warriors such as this Staff Sergeant are the reason we sleep soundly and can freely express our opinions, no matter how distasteful some of those opinions may be; we need to give them all the support we can muster.

Thanks especially to the GoE Tidewater volunteer for getting the logistics worked out with Best Buy Business and thanks to Best Buy Business for being so damn nice. It was a Charlie Foxtrot for about an hour, but it got solved and the folks at Best Buy Broad Street helped enormously.

We took care of an 82NDABN Trooper with a nice new Toshiba and Dragonspeak.

The President took a public stand against the hard-working private sector families of Wisconsin who are struggling to make ends meet in an post-stimulus era of 9% unemployment.

OFA, the President’s campaign arm, has organized and bussed in hundreds of out-of-state protesters to continue the agitation in Wisconsin.

The DNC has been working to help organize protest against states’ rights and the Wisconsin governor.

Yet progressive columnists who, for whatever reason, are allowed to post poorly-written Kos fantasies in a publication like Forbes and are freaking out over, who else? The Koch Brothers. Rick Ungar ironically and generously quotes the Soros-funded Think Progress in his diatribe about the Wisconsin protests.

Even if, for the sake of this ridiculous argument, the Koch brothers were involved in funding a portion of the rally, who cares? Ungar misses the irony of quoting a Soros publication while complaining about the Koch brothers. He misses the irony of standing for government-organized protests. He props up one bajillionaire while whining about another. It’s good enough for progressives to allow the White House to abuse its power and stir up tension in state capitols, yet somehow Ungar finds it within himself to draw a boundary when it comes to conservatives doing the same.

Happy Birthday, Mr Reagan

Uncle Jimbo has a great essay over at Blackfive in honor of Mr. Reagan. Here's the last two paragraphs, but you should make the jump and read the whole thing.

I bet the protesters in Egypt, or the poor bastards who preceded them in Iran, would love to hear the support of the most powerful man on the planet. Or more importantly for their governments to hear it. Belief in freedom and the rule of democracy is the greatest gift America has given the world. We should never fail to stand tall and refuse to countenance tyranny. We do our country, our security and the world as a whole a tremendous good every time we reaffirm those beliefs.

So thanks President Reagan, for the inspiration, the example, the strength and the dignity. America is exceptional, we were founded that way and remain the shining city on the hill the rest of the world wishes they lived in.

Uncle J is definitely on track for Honorary Southerner status. After sampling some of Tankerbabe's most excellent beef brisket lightly sprinkled with Crown Royal, and a shot of some very smooth peach sour mash, we headed out for a whirlwind tour of Richmond's Monument Ave, then up the Boulevard past the Historical Society and Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, stopping at the Carillon. (There used to be a WWI museum inside the Carillon). We ended with a brief stop at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, which is just around the corner from my hooch.

This was UJ's first visit to our fair city. He was most impressed I think with our statuary along Monument Ave. Turns out UJ is an admirer of our Confederate General staff, especially Stonewall Jackon and his dad is a serious Civil War buff.

VMFA left him speechless for a few seconds. After I told him some of the backstories on the addition, he was really impressed.

We hatched mulitple schemes in furtherance of UJ's vision of Global Domination and world peace, and had one more shot of peach sour mash.

All in all a very good day hanging with Uncle J.

As an aside, and totally unrelated to the following post, (except that it bitchslaps the same pinhead), Uncle Jimbo loves to push buttons, and the aptly named Juicebox Mafia has a whole damn board full of buttons to push.

Matthew Yglesias disgustingly and inaccurately tries to politicize the Giffords shooting

As I write (early this evening), Arizona Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is fighting for her life after being shot in the head during a constituency event outside a grocery store in Tuscon.

For most everyone, regardless of their politics — Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, Right and Left — this is a sad, horrific and tragic event. And in fact, if you look at most Twitter and blog feeds, you’ll see a widespread outpouring of prayerful mourning and concern.

One notable pundit, however, has had a different reaction. The reprehensible Matthew Yglesias of the Center for American Progress has rushed forward to try and politicize this event in a despicable attempt to score cheap political points for the far Left.

Disgustingly, Yglesias blames Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann for creating a political climate in which “violent rhetoric and imagery” apparently incite people to murder.

“A reminder that gun imagery and electoral politics don’t mix that well,” Yglesias opined on Twitter, while referencing a flier published by Palin’s political action committee, SarahPAC. In the flier, Palin “targeted,” with crosshairs, 20 House Democrats for defeat.

These Democrats, the flier noted, voted for Obamacare and yet represented districts that had voted for the GOP presidential ticket in 2008.

Yglesias also referenced a Huffington Post article in which Rep. Bachmann reportedly said, “I want people in Minnesota armed and dangerous” to block global warming legislation.

That sounds ominous, doesn’t it? There’s only one problem: Bachmann clearly was using “armed and dangerous” in a metaphorical and political, not literal and violent, sense. In fact, she quite clearly meant “armed and dangerous” with information, not bullets.

Reid Wilson, the editor of Hotline, then reported, via Twitter, that Bachmann said, “My tears are flowing, and I am stunned and angered that Gabby Giffords was savagely gunned down.”

To which Yglesias responded: “If Bachmann is “stunned and angered” by [this] shooting, why did she call for “armed and dangerous” resistance to Waxman-Markey?”

My, my. Talk about intellectual dishonesty. Have you no sense of decency, Sir? At long last, have you no sense of decency?

Of course he doesn’t. Yglesias is a tool of the rabid Left. He sees people only in political, and not human, terms.

On the heels of the wussy naval pc police relieving Capt Honors, the academic pc police have saddled an otherwise honorable American Warrior with a "crazy" label.

The left would love to see the American Warrior Class go the way of the dodo bird. You can't fight wars without Warriors, and America produces the finest Warrior Class ever seen. The left hates the American Warrior Class, but that hate is actually a manifestation of envy. They know they can't do what our Warriors do and it drives them crazy.

Community college subjects Iraq veteran to humiliating bureaucratic hoops --

Charles Whittington was discharged from the Army in 2008 for medical reasons after serving in Iraq. Upon returning to the states, he tried to lead a normal life. One aspect of that was taking classes at the Community College of Baltimore County.

Whittington was a good student and had no disciplinary problems, until he wrote a personal essay for the student paper about killing enemy combatants. For writing in the tradition of Tim O'Brien (author of "The Things They Carried" and "Going After Cacciato"), Whittington was deemed a potential threat by school administrators, who forced him to undergo a psychiatric evaluation if he wanted to continue taking classes at the college. Two months after the school made its request, Whittington gave the school his latest psychiatric evaluation from his VA therapist.

According to the Baltimore Sun, the file "describes [Whittington] as cooperative, pleasant, realistic and goal-oriented. It says he suffers from depression, inability to sleep and post-traumatic stress disorder, but shows no signs of suicidal or homicidal ideation." The school rejected the file and told Whittington to get a "fresh" evaluation.

All of the combat veterans I have met and spent any amount of time with have the same symptoms. Not a single one of them wants to go out and kill indiscriminately, but they all want to protect America and our way of life, and that may include having to take the lives of enemy combatants.

Videos from the XO, now CO, of the USS Enterprise are "Raunchy"?

This has been all over the military back channels and the media this weekend...the former XO of the USS Enterprise, Captain Owen Honors, made stupid videos for the ship's movie night back in 2006. Some of the content of the videos may be offensive. The Virginian-Pilot broke the story (with no real explanation why). Here's what the AP is reporting:
The star of the videos, made in 2006 and 2007, is a former Top Gun pilot who now commands the same ship, the Norfolk-based USS Enterprise, which was deployed in the Middle East at the time and is weeks from deploying again.<...>Capt. Owen Honors appeared in the videos while he was the USS Enterprise's executive officer — the second in command — and they aired on the ship's closed-circuit television. Honors took over as the ship's commander in May...
I thought I would check on this with the Navy Mil-Bloggers. The first stop you should make is to see the video (which I have watched twice now) over at Commander Salamander's blog. Commander Salamander adds this to the discussion:
...A couple of things to keep in mind. CAPT Honors was Big XO on one of my old ships - the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65). That was roughly four years ago when these videos were seen - by thousands.Now, almost a half decade later - people who have seen and probably done much worse things on deployment are calling for their Yeoman to bring them smelling salts.Don't forget that he is now the Commanding Officer of "The Big E."...

A Lot To Be Thankful For

I am thankful first and foremost to live in America. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to live anywhere else. (I can, but I won't.) I am very thankful for the dedicated men and women of the United States Armed Forces, standing the wall, walking the fence line in far away places, making sure I get to enjoy everything America stands for. Without those Warriors, we'd be lost.

One year ago today I woke up in an ICU with a breathing tube down my throat, a tube in my neck and several more exiting my body just above my bellybutton. I hurt in places I didn't think you could feel pain and all I could think about was getting that damn tube out of my mouth.

During that ordeal, I learned just how many friends I really have and I have to admit, it is humbling.

Thank you to everyone who sent prayers and good thoughts my way and Happy Birthday Tankerbabe.
