Fundraiser Update For Welcome Home Parade

In a previous post I mistakenly said there would be a fundraiser at Mulligans in the Fan on the 8th of May. I was wrong. There will not be a fundraiser at Mulligans on the 8th of May there was a fundraiser at Mulligans this past Tuesday, the 1st. My bad. Thank you Mulligan's in the Fan for supporting our veterans and local events.

There will be a fundraiser at O'Tooles on the 15th of May. It's still a good excuse to drink beer, eat food, socialize and support a local event which has international implications.

If the management at O'Tooles has no objections, I will have a few jars of my BBQ Sauce on hand and if one of those jars leaves with you because of your kindness, generosity and amazing good looks, well, thats just karma.

Congratulations to the Hammer and the 2nd Luckiest Man on the Planet

Jake the Nail now holds the position of 2nd Luckiest Man in the known universe. (When I die, he will be 1st.)

The Hammer tied the knot with her beau Jake on Saturday in Mineral VA. Uncle J was there and I'm sure he has pictures and vids somewhere. The Hammer looked more beautiful than evah!!!

I hope ya'll have a long and happy life, that you are as happy as I have been in my marriage, and that Saturday was the worst day you'll ever have.

I got a text from Uncle J around midnight Saturday telling me that our gifts to the newlyweds consisted of a jar of UncleJimBob's Bourbon-Garlic BBQ Sauce from our 1st production run for the happy couple and an orange jumpsuit for the groom, to remind him of what will happen if he makes her sad. Assuming of course, that we get to him before the Hammer does.

First, if you want the best fried pork chops this side of Heaven, get over to Lucilles on Brook Rd. One block south of Wilkinson Rd. (The old Celebrity Room, if you're old enough to remember that one.) If you have Tim as your server, leave him a good tip, and tell him Semper Fi!!!!

Uncle Jimbo and I had supper there last night and UJ loves Southern cooking. So much so, in fact, he actually made a special trip down yesterday to pick up a case of my BBQ sauce. He's on the road today, heading for Tennessee to be a judge in a BBQ cookoff in Memphis with Tankerbabe. My sauce, sadly, did not get entered, but thats OK. I'd hate for mine to take first place and me not be there.

I've started the paperwork to make Uncle Jimbo an honorary Southerner. The boy does love to eat.

Second, keep an eye on The Daily Caller. Rumour has it they have hired a new video guru and things should get interesting. I can't say who it is, but I can tell you she finished 1st and 2nd in my hottest conservative women contest and she has seen me very drunk. Correction..very very drunk. No wait..very very very drunk. Yea, thats it.

I know a lot of you will be at the Tea Party Convention this weekend, but if you're out in the West End Saturday, stop by Quaker Steak and Lube on Broad Street, just west of Hungary Spring Rd. Motorcycles, Hooters girls, beer, girls, motorcycles, girls, beer. A Southern boys' dream.

Cooking With the Troops Is Official

Change in Command

Things move fast and furious in this world, and commands change. New postings, new responsibilities, and more face those of us looking to do more. It is not just the military that experiences some of this; however, they may be the best at dealing with it...

Early on, Patti (Patti Patton-Bader, founder of Soldiers' Angels) had suggested that we look at spinning Cooking with the Wounded out into its own organization. Frankly, it was not an idea that I liked when first raised, because it was a new thing, and scary change. Yet, the idea caught on and grew.

After some fits, starts, ups, downs, and general lurching around, a step has been made. On Friday 15 April, Cooking with the Troops Inc was incorporated as a non-profit charity in the state of Indiana. With luck and some help from the Post Office, it is hoped to file for 501(c)(3) status within the next two weeks.

Making it happen: Not so simple, but fun and rewarding.

Concrete Bob, Mary Katharine Ham, and I are the founding Board members, and will serve as Chairman, Vice Chairman (and,yes, Bob might should be chair of vice instead) and Secretary. We are in the process of filling the Board and doing all manner of other things to get this off the ground. Our Board will be a bit different, in that one position has to be filled by someone who has served in combat arms (only appropriate for a charity that has a special focus on the wounded), and we have a few other surprises in store. We will also have a national advisory board, and we want to take this opportunity to make public our invitation to Patti, RickyJohn, and Matt to be members of that board.

This has happened faster than anticipated in many ways, and we don't yet have a website (just a domain or three) or many other things. Most of those are in work, and we hope to have good news to share here in the days ahead. Also, some contests and other things...

It's that time of year again. The Second Battalion 503DRCT 173rd Airborne Brigade (Sep) has returned to Italy, with medals and commendations worthy of the history of the 173rd. ("8th of November" Big and Rich)

The 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Infantry Division and the 6th Squadron 4th Cavalry have taken over in Afghanistan in Kunar and Nuristan Provinces and points north. (Enemy Central) "The Most Dangerous Place on Earth"

We have adopted the 3rd Infantry BCT of the 1st Infantry Division (The Big Red 1) and the 6th Squadron 4th Cavalry.
