The conduct of the National Park Service over the last week might be the biggest scandal of the Obama administration. This is an expansive claim, of course. Benghazi, Fast and Furious, the IRS, the NSA, the HHS mandate​—​this is an administration that has not lacked for appalling abuses of power. And we still have three years to go.

Even so, consider the actions of the National Park Service since the government shutdown began. People first noticed what the NPS was up to when the World War II Memorial on the National Mall was “closed.” Just to be clear, the memorial is an open plaza. There is nothing to operate. Sometimes there might be a ranger standing around. But he’s not collecting tickets or opening gates. Putting up barricades and posting guards to “close” the World War II Memorial takes more resources and manpower than “keeping it open.”

The closure of the World War II Memorial was just the start of the Park Service’s partisan assault on the citizenry. There’s a cute little historic site just outside of the capital in McLean, Virginia, called the Claude Moore Colonial Farm. They do historical reenactments, and once upon a time the National Park Service helped run the place. But in 1980, the NPS cut the farm out of its budget. A group of private citizens set up an endowment to take care of the farm’s expenses. Ever since, the site has operated independently through a combination of private donations and volunteer workers.

The Park Service told Claude Moore Colonial Farm to shut down.

The farm’s administrators appealed this directive​—​they explained that the Park Service doesn’t actually do anything for the historic site. The folks at the NPS were unmoved. And so, last week, the National Park Service found the scratch to send officers to the park to forcibly remove both volunteer workers and visitors.

Think about that for a minute. The Park Service, which is supposed to serve the public by administering parks, is now in the business of forcing parks they don’t administer to close. As Homer Simpson famously asked, did we lose a war?

We’re not done yet. The parking lot at Mount Vernon was closed by the NPS, too, even though the Park Service does not own Mount Vernon; it just controls access to the parking lots from the George Washington Parkway. At the Vietnam Memorial​—​which is just a wall you walk past​—​the NPS called in police to block access. But the pièce de résistance occurred in South Dakota. The Park Service wasn’t content just to close Mount Rushmore. No, they went the extra mile and put out orange cones to block the little scenic overlook areas on the roads near Mount Rushmore. You know, just to make sure no taxpayers could catch a glimpse of it.

It’s one thing for politicians to play shutdown theater. It’s another thing entirely for a civil bureaucracy entrusted with the privilege of caring for our national heritage to wage war against the citizenry on behalf of a political party.

This is how deep the politicization of Barack Obama’s administration goes. The Park Service falls under the Department of the Interior, and its director is a political appointee. Historically, the directorship has been nonpartisan and the service has functioned as a civil, not a political, unit. Before the current director, Jonathan Jarvis, was nominated by President Obama, he’d spent 30 years as a civil servant. But he has taken to his political duties with all the fervor of a third-tier hack from the DNC, marrying the disinterested contempt of a meter maid with the zeal of an ambitious party apparatchik.

It’s worth recalling that the Park Service has always been deeply ambivalent about the public which they’re charged with serving. In a 2005 Weekly Standard piece about the NPS’s plan to reconfigure the National Mall, Andrew Ferguson reported:

The Park Service’s ultimate desire was made public, indiscreetly, by John Parsons, associate regional park director for the mall. In 2000 Parsons told the Washington Post he hoped that eventually all unauthorized traffic, whether by foot or private car, would be moved off the mall. Visitors could park in distant satellite lots and be bused to nodal points, where they would be watered and fed, allowed to tour a monument, and then reboard a bus and head for another monument. “Just like at Disneyland,” Parsons told the Post. “Nobody drives through Disneyland. They’re not allowed. And we’ve got the better theme park.

Yes, yes. They must protect America’s treasures from the ugly Americans. No surprise then that one park ranger explained to the Washington Times last week, “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can.”

“To make life as difficult for people as we can”​—​that would be an apt motto for the Obama worldview. And now even the misanthropes at the National Park Service have been yoked to his project. This is the clearest example yet of how the president understands the relationship between his government and the citizenry.

Fundraiser Update For Welcome Home Parade

In a previous post I mistakenly said there would be a fundraiser at Mulligans in the Fan on the 8th of May. I was wrong. There will not be a fundraiser at Mulligans on the 8th of May there was a fundraiser at Mulligans this past Tuesday, the 1st. My bad. Thank you Mulligan's in the Fan for supporting our veterans and local events.

There will be a fundraiser at O'Tooles on the 15th of May. It's still a good excuse to drink beer, eat food, socialize and support a local event which has international implications.

If the management at O'Tooles has no objections, I will have a few jars of my BBQ Sauce on hand and if one of those jars leaves with you because of your kindness, generosity and amazing good looks, well, thats just karma.

Veterans and service members across the country have issued a national Call-to-Action for all patriotic Americans under a document titled A Declaration to Restore the Constitutional Republic, an ongoing strategy to be launched in Washington D.C. on Veterans Day, November 11, 2011.

Men and women who have risked life and limb to fight for freedom and liberty around the globe, now turn their attention to fighting for freedom and liberty at home. They are calling for peaceful actions, both nationally and locally, beginning on 11.11.11 in their assembly at the Washington Memorial at 0600.

The Declaration to Restore is extensive, and very clear. They are calling upon all who have taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, to act now, upon those oaths. They are calling upon oath takers, both active and inactive, as well as all patriotic American citizens prepared to stand with them in pursuit of justice, a return to constitutional government and the rule of law.

Led by Col. James Harding, USAF Ret., the twentieth most decorated military officer alive today, and Col. Harry Riley, USA Ret. – via Veteran Defenders of America – the organization has had enough and will not sit idly by and watch the current destruction of their country and the daily assault on everything they hold dear.

Working against a strong head wind to get their word out, the word is getting out and many are answering the call. A partial list of supporters is posted at the organizations web site, demonstrating a clear grassroots rebellion swelling from the bottom up.

Great effort went into the Veterans Declaration, but what is the end game? A call for Obama and others to resign is not likely to result in any resignations. Even the call for impeachment is unlikely to cause members of congress to begin impeachment proceedings, after congress has ignored their honor-bound duty to have stopped Obama & Co. long before now.

Another rally in D.C. is likely to end with the same results as all previous rallies in D.C., no change in the anti-American national direction, if there is no clear strategy for carrying out the demands.
So, what is the real strategy?

When asked what the Veterans and Patriots hope to achieve, U.S. Patriots Union Co-Founder Tim Harrington said it right – “We have to start somewhere...” – Patriots Union is the parent organization for Veteran Defenders. The two organizations joined forces back in May 2011, with Veteran Defenders becoming the “oath takers” division of Patriots Union.

Explaining further – “The 11.11.11 Event in D.C. is not intended to be the end-all be-all solution for our nation’s woes, in one afternoon. It marks the beginning, a launching pad for an ongoing strategy to confront anti-American and unconstitutional activities in our government from the ground up, fighting local corruption as well as national corruption, one day at a time, one incident at a time.” – said Harrington, a former Marine Sergeant. “The idea is to no longer be silent or complacent...”

11.11.11 will not mark the end of the march to socialism in the U.S., but it will mark the beginning of the end, according to Harrington and Harding.

“We don’t expect criminals in the federal government to give up easily, after working so hard for so long to entrench themselves in positions of power,” said Col. Harding, explaining further, “We anticipate serious resistance from those who mean harm to America, but we are up to the task.”

“It is apparent, based on many indisputable facts, that individual liberty, possession of property, national sovereignty, national security, and freedom will not survive if the present political power base prevails. Therefore a course change is now required as determined by millions of Americans, and spelled out in A Declaration to Restore the Constitutional Republic.” – Said retired USAF Brigadier General Charles Jones III.

Veteran Defender Major General Paul Vallely (USA Ret.) was even more succinct in his statement – “President Obama, his appointees and czars must be replaced immediately.” But nobody is operating under the illusion that the massive problems in our country can be solved in a single afternoon or event...

Col. Harry Riley puts a fine point on the matter at hand – “Consider the millions that have sacrificed to their death, blood spilled and families destroyed...most from our warriors and families...just one example of the price paid for our freedom and liberty. And now, Obama is exercising a free rein to destroy our nation as slowly and methodically as a creeping undetected cancer. – It must stop!”

An increasing number of veterans and patriots are joining the veterans Call-to-Action, and it marks the first time in recent history when veterans stepped up to take a firm stand against a runaway government, calling upon all patriotic citizens to stand with them.

For the veterans, they seem to understand the long road ahead, the challenges involved, and the need for a sustained strategy which relies not on politicians, but rather on the people, who will not allow the destruction of the American Dream to continue.

Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin lost his honorable military career and went to prison for simply doing the right thing, what his oath required him to do, made a political prisoner by his illegitimate Commander-in-Chief and a corrupt UCMJ... Lt. Commander Walter F. Fitzpatrick, III sits in a Monroe County jail today for attempting repeatedly to keep his oath to protect and defend.

Meanwhile, our federal government continues to drive the nation deeper into chaos and calamity.

Sitting in military prison today, are numerous honorable soldiers who kept their promise, only to be charged, tried and incarcerated for doing so, by an anti-military administration that continues to place soldiers in harm’s way without the consent of congress, the support of the people, and under insane rules of engagement, making them political prisoners upon their return from combat, the truth that would exonerate these soldiers, withheld from the public. This insanity must end and these political prisoners must be set free.

The time for real American change has arrived, and the veterans are the right people to lead that initiative. I will being standing with those veterans in D.C. on 11.11.11 and invite YOU to stand with us too, on Veterans Day and every day after, until true justice is achieved and freedom rings once again in America.

The rain held off long enough to get finished, although if you check out the pics on Facebook, you'll notice I have an umbrella over the laptop. I'll have the entire program of speakers uploaded ASAP. I have to work between two laptops, and the Dell is slow.

This museum promises to be a new experience, not only as a memorial to the veterans and the fallen, but also with displays and inter-active features that will show average Americans what its like to be a Warrior in service to your Nation. Some of the lucky ones will be able to drive an APC (Amored Personnel Carrier), and participate in re-enactments.

Multiple BZ's and OOOOORAHHHHHHHH!!!! to the Hylton Family for their generous gift, to Corey Stewart (he could be a Senator) for his untiring efforts to make this happen, and to the thousands of people who helped simply because it's the right thing to do.

Wartime Museum Mission and Facts:

Mission: The Wartime Museum will tell the stories of those who served in all branches ofthe United States military and on the American home front, from World War I to the present. Visitors will learn about personal wartime experiences, the realities of war and the sacrifices made by Americans in order to preserve our nation’s freedoms.

Site: The Museum will be located on approximately 70 acres adjacent to Interstate 95 andDale Boulevard at Exit 156 West. The Hylton Family of Prince William County donated the land for this site, which is about 22 miles from the nation’s capital.

I'm 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela .

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract
set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois.

I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.

I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship. I live in Illinois , where the
"Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

It's Official-We Have A Good Man for VA-03

I have a unique perspective. I know this young man personally.

I can honestly say to you that Coby Dillard is the right choice to challenge Bobby Scott. VA-03 has been under dhimmi control for far too long. Scott votes the dhimmi party line consistently. Its time to take VA-03 back. Coby will be a voice for the people, not the party.

I believe that we must use every tool in our arsenal to keep our country’s enemies from our shores. I support electronic screening of calls and other forms of communication that originate/terminate in this country, so long as that tool is not used illegally on our own citizens.

To quote a good friend, “I believe that no one owes me anything just because I live and breathe.” I don’t support any system, program, or entitlement that gives preference to one over another.

People should succeed-and experience failure-on their own. I believe the government has provided me what they’re required to: protection of my life, liberty, and right to pursue happiness. They should provide nothing more.

I do not consider myself a staunch social conservative. I think abortion is terrible, but understand and could support it under a very few circumstances (namely, rape, incest and the inability to care for a child with extreme defects). I do not support it as a method of birth control or to terminate an unwanted pregnancy. Believing all this, though, I also acknowledge the political reality that-for now-makes the right of choice the law of the land. With that, I choose to focus my efforts on increasing awareness of alternatives to abortion.

I believe that parents know where their child can get the best education, and should be allowed to choose the best school for their child. I believe that our children should be taught in the language of our country-English-and that they should be taught the concepts of citizenship, patriotism, and service to country. I support testing in schools to ensure that they perform up to government standards, and support the firing of substandard teachers/school administrators if their schools fail to meet those standards.

A 90-year-old Army veteran who won the Medal of Honor during World War II is battling his neighborhood association for what he says is his right to fly the American flag from a pole in his front yard.
Col. Van T. Barfoot says he erected the 21-foot flagpole in September, raising the flag daily at sunrise and retiring it at sunset.
The Sussex Square homeowners’ association told him recently that the free-standing pole violates the townhouse neighborhood’s aesthetic guidelines and ordered him to remove it by 5 p.m. Friday or face a lawsuit.
“I don’t have any qualms with their authority, but the thing about it is that I cannot get enough conversation out of them where we can try to work out a solution,” Barfoot said Wednesday in a telephone interview.
The homeowners’ association said they denied a previous request by Barfoot to erect the flagpole but that he put it up anyway, according to a statement issued by its lawyer Sandy Bowen. The statement says Barfoot can display an American flag, as long as it’s in a way that conforms with association rules.
“This is not about the American flag. This is about a flagpole,” the statement reads. Barfoot, who moved into his townhouse in June, won his medal for actions near Carano, Italy, in 1944 and is one of about 90 surviving Medal of Honor winners. He also won the Purple Heart and other decorations, and served in Korea and Vietnam before retiring from the service in 1974.
“I’ve flown the flag at my home as long as I can remember,” said Barfoot, who lived in rural Amelia County before moving to suburban Richmond. “This is the first time in the last 36 years that I’ve been unable to put my flag up on the same pole, the same staff and take it down when it’s time to come down.”
Neighbors largely have expressed their support, but he realizes that ultimately it’s up to the nine-member association board whether they will grant an exception to the rules.
“Emotional torture is what they’ve done to my father,” said his daughter, Margaret Nicholls. “He has lost sleep; he worries about it constantly. He just doesn’t understand. He thinks that if it’s on his property they can’t tell him what to do.”

I have been fortunate over the past 4 years to meet some of the most amazing individuals this country has ever produced, and not all of them are veterans, but all are serving this Nation in some capacity.

From Soldiers Angels to the milbloggers to the extraordinary civilians who sacrifice so much so that deployed Warriors will know they are being thought of.

Your friendship means more to me than you will ever know, and I can ever adequately demonstrate.

National Museum of Americans In Wartime

Open House this weekend
Our biggest event, the annual "Open House", is this weekend, October 24 & 25 at Allan Cors’ Tank Farm (lots of tanks!) near Nokesville, Virginia.

On Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, the activities will run from 11:00am until 4:00pm. Many vintage vehicles will be on display and several will be used in live demonstrations.

Living history units will be present to display their gear and weaponry and even provide some shock and awe. Refreshments and Wartime Museum items will be available for sale.

Veterans, kids, families, and even active duty personnel love this event! If you’ve never been, it’s definitely worth the drive.
