MoH Recipient Has Flagpole Issues

WWII MEDAL OF HONOR WINNER FACES SUIT OVER HIS FLAG-FLYING
By Zinie Chen Sampson The Associated Press
RICHMOND
A 90-year-old Army veteran who won the Medal of Honor during World War II is battling his neighborhood association for what he says is his right to fly the American flag from a pole in his front yard.
Col. Van T. Barfoot says he erected the 21-foot flagpole in September, raising the flag daily at sunrise and retiring it at sunset.
The Sussex Square homeowners’ association told him recently that the free-standing pole violates the townhouse neighborhood’s aesthetic guidelines and ordered him to remove it by 5 p.m. Friday or face a lawsuit.
“I don’t have any qualms with their authority, but the thing about it is that I cannot get enough conversation out of them where we can try to work out a solution,” Barfoot said Wednesday in a telephone interview.
The homeowners’ association said they denied a previous request by Barfoot to erect the flagpole but that he put it up anyway, according to a statement issued by its lawyer Sandy Bowen. The statement says Barfoot can display an American flag, as long as it’s in a way that conforms with association rules.
“This is not about the American flag. This is about a flagpole,” the statement reads. Barfoot, who moved into his townhouse in June, won his medal for actions near Carano, Italy, in 1944 and is one of about 90 surviving Medal of Honor winners. He also won the Purple Heart and other decorations, and served in Korea and Vietnam before retiring from the service in 1974.
“I’ve flown the flag at my home as long as I can remember,” said Barfoot, who lived in rural Amelia County before moving to suburban Richmond. “This is the first time in the last 36 years that I’ve been unable to put my flag up on the same pole, the same staff and take it down when it’s time to come down.”
Neighbors largely have expressed their support, but he realizes that ultimately it’s up to the nine-member association board whether they will grant an exception to the rules.
“Emotional torture is what they’ve done to my father,” said his daughter, Margaret Nicholls. “He has lost sleep; he worries about it constantly. He just doesn’t understand. He thinks that if it’s on his property they can’t tell him what to do.”

Veterans Paying Their Own Medical Costs?

“The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars to be treated and appreciated by their nation.”—George Washington.

I guess we know for sure how the Annointed One, may peace be upon him, feels about treating the Veterans of earlier wars.

It will decimate the ranks and keep future warriors from making the decision to join.
That is the driving force behind this decision to make veterans pay for their own medical costs.

The loonies will have their socialist utopia with no military. I'll have more thoughts on this later today. I have to go to work now and pay my fair share.

More Dissing of Veterans

and COB6 doesn't like it one dam bit either:

This new approach to screwing veterans however is beyond my parameters. Based on implied contract rules of law where there is not a veteran alive today that ever thought he would be liable for his own care after a combat related injury; I am not at all certain that this change is remotely LAWFUL.

Even if some pony-tailed Chicago lawyer finds a loophole to make this legal, no one with an IQ above that of a pencil sharpener can argue that it is ETHICAL.

But most important is the MORAL part. Anyone who thinks this idea is remotely moral is either retarded or just plain un-American. Where is the morality in a country sending a person to war and then refusing to pay for his care after being maimed in the war?

This is beyond immoral, it is un-American! And I will debate this issue with any dumbass veteran who voted for this amateur. If you’re not a veteran don’t contact me. If you want to defend this as a veteran (and you know we will check), I will do so in any forum you like as often as you like and I will ask nor offer quarter.

To all you trolls out there, consider this before taking my challenge:
President Obama wants to charge combat wounded veterans for care to save $500 million while simultaneously GRANTING $900 million to terrorist in Palestine to recover from the beat down that they sorely deserved.

I know whose side I am on, do you?

To General Shinseki I say RESIGN NOW. This is the only possible way to preserve your integrity as a soldier’s soldier. To do anything less is to slap the face of every wounded warrior and leave yourself as nothing more than a liar and pathetic political
hack.

I don’t call for you resignation because of any malfeasance that you did but as a principled position against this atrocity and solidarity with the soldiers that you once commanded.

Please Sir, You Must RESIGN, RIGHT NOW!

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?

General Shinseki, the new Secretary of Veterans Affairs, should be asked to resign if he is even considering implementing this new idea of Obama's: Let Veterans pay for their treatment on service related injuries. President Obama wants vets to use their private insurance to reimburse the VA for treatment. Hmmmm, I ain't got no freaking insurance! His little economic adventures are extending my period of unemployment. So, do I have to pay cash before I get to see a doc?

I can understand that Obama comes from a liberal background with little exposure to the military. But this is ridiculous - he was a Senator. And he campaigned on the promises of improving veteran health care. Not only will this harm veterans financially, it will cause companies to rethink their hiring practices in regards to disabled vets. Those businesses will be holding the bag because their new employee will be an added cost. Insurance rates will rise.

He's sending 900 MILLION to HAMAS but he wants Vets to pay the govt for treatment.

Can we question his freaking patriotism YET?

Veterans Dissed in Porkulus Bill

Every day we find out just how little the dhimmicrats regard our military.

VETERANS ARE LOW PRIORITY IN STIMULUS PACKAGE
ACORN among Organizations Receiving More
Washington, D.C. -
Today, Congressman Steve Buyer of Indiana, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, issued the following statement after the final text of the economic stimulus package was unveiled lastnight.

"Of the numerous flaws in the large economic recovery spending bill, none is more shameful than the obvious disregard it holds for veterans, Buyer said.

I find it appalling that this bill provides access to $2 billion for ACORN, $30 million for the salt-marsh harvest mouse in the San Francisco Bay area, and millions to purchase Œgreen golf carts, instead of bettering the lives of veterans. I hope everyone will pause to consider that those who have put their lives on the line to defend our right to vote are a lower priority than an organization like ACORN, which has been accused of unlawful voter registration. I dont know of a starker example of the Democrats misplaced priorities.

While pleased my request for $1 billion was adopted to accelerate construction projects in the Veterans Health Administration, I am disappointed my proposals to add $1 billion for VA loan guarantees to veteran-owned small businesses, $357 million to increase training and job placement, and $10 million for homeless women veterans and veterans with children was not included. These proposals would have helped veterans and our economy.

It appears the Democrat leadership was more interested in special projects than pro-growth economic policies that create and sustain jobs. These are distinct policy differences for which our economy will suffer, and Americans will pay the price.

I also do not understand how more than $100 million for non-citizen, non-resident, Filipino Veterans of World War II will help stimulate the U.S.economy. I hope Americans will stop to ponder the distorted values of those who crafted this bill"

65 million +/- so-called Americans voted to change the staus quo. Now the socialists are in charge for real. I hope you're happy with the outcome.
