Voter ID Laws: Racist or Reasonable?

Voter ID laws are not racist. Only liberals who claim minorities and poor people are too stupid to obtain an ID are racist.

The Virginia Voter ID Law is a sham. It does nothing to ensure the integrity of the voting process and the default setting is voter fraud, because if a person is required to cast a provisional ballot due to not having an ID, that vote is still counted if no one contests it. In Texas, a voter who casts a ballot without an ID is required to return with a valid ID within a certain timeframe, or that vote is thrown out. No ID, no count.

The integrity of the election process must be inviolate. We cannot be left to wonder if the results being reported are accurate, we must know with a relative degree of certainess that the candidate being held up as the winner, is actually the winner. Voter identification, verification of residency, and verification of eligibility are basic requirements which go a long way towards ensuring that degree of certainess and are simply good practices. Liberals will give anyone a ballot. If you're not a legal citizen of this country you cannot vote in this country. That is the rule of law. Voting is a right we earn by virtue of citizenship, whether natural born or naturalized. It is an obligation of citizenship. It is also a privilege that can be rescinded if you are convicted of a felony. That, too, is the rule of law. Liberals are more than willing and capable of suspending the rule of law when it suits their agenda.

It was Democrats who were predominantly responsible for the Jim Crow laws against black Americans voting. Democrats have historically exhibited a tendency to go to any lengths to ensure that the results of elections turn out in their favor, as was the case during Jim Crow when they didn’t want black Americans to participate in choosing non-racist leaders.

Republicans often point out the recent example of the community organizing group known as ACORN. As outlined in Matthew Vadum’s Subversion Inc., there have been 55 convictions for voter fraud and voter registration fraud from ACORN’s efforts, which leaned heavily in favor of the Democratic Party.

The media began to focus on the findings from the Harris County [Texas] tax assessor’s office and True the Vote. Shortly after the August 24 press conference announcing the results of the office’s investigation, a fire of unknown origins burned down the warehouse containing all of Harris County’s voting equipment. In total, the fire claimed 10,000 voting machines, which was approximately $30,000,000 worth of equipment. Harris County then spent $750,000 dollars on paper ballots as an emergency measure. Meanwhile, Houston Votes, Texans Together and the Democratic Party of Texas all filed lawsuits against Catherine Engelbrecht’s organization in short order. The lawsuits are still ongoing.

Intimidation through litigation. The preferred method of liberals and extremists to silence the opposition.

House Democrats are moving to pass gun control and race-based legislation in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting, The Hill reports today. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus want to end “Stand Your Ground” laws – laws designed to allow people to defend themselves rather than running when threatened with serious bodily harm. They have sponsored a resolution claiming that the Martin killing was a “crime,” suggesting that “racial bias led to the use of deadly force,” and lamenting “the inconceivable fact that his killer remains free.” The evidence in the Martin case remains unclear, at best.

A new High Definition clip from the same video appears to make clear that Zimmerman had a gash, or wound of some kind on the back of his head. That would be totally consistent with his version of events on the night in question and opposite the impression ABC News gave its viewers.

Big Journalism called the ABC video-based report reckless and revealing of nothing after it first aired. ABC's presumed ability to enhance and review video before airing only makes their report all the more outrageous. Given analysis by Breitbart Media and the Daily Caller already performed, the ABC video appeared to be inconclusive, at best.

The new High Defintion clip from the police video Breitbart TV is releasing, see below, makes any determination beyond the video being inconclusive is shoddy, if not intentionally unethical, Journalism - if not deceptive and misleading Journalism. To date, ABC has offered no official response to the broad and convincing criticism of the disingenuous nature of their aired report.

Racist Mayor Dwight Jones is living proof that intelligence and deductive reasoning are not pre-requisites for elected office. It's one thing to support an issue, but to join a public demonstration against legislation intended to reinforce voter eligibility in the Commonwealth and tell everyone witihin earshot it's a Republican trick to keep blacks from voting for Democrats is just stupid beyond description and very, very racist.

Let me make several things very clear, Mr Jones; I don't care what color you are. I do not care what you do or who your mama was. I do care about who votes in the Commonwealth and I want the people who cast votes to be legal residents of the Commonwealth and eligible to cast a vote. Verification of residency is step one in the process, and the best way to verify residency is with a driver's license or state-issued photo ID. Its not racist to demand proof of your eligibility to vote. Its not racist to insure the voter rolls are up-to-date and the people whose names are on those rolls are eligible. I have to show my ID every time I vote. They check the name and address on the ID with the name and address on the voter roll.

What I want them to do is demand to see my Voter Registration Card, which I carry everywhere and have never been asked for.

Get a clue, Mr Jones. This legislation is not a white racist plot ginned up by The Man to keep the brutha down. Its simply good citizenship.

JW Sues DOJ for Documents Regarding Decision to Dismiss of Lawsuit against New Black Panther Party..

Washington, DC -- May 25, 2010 - Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Obama Justice Department to obtain documents related to the agency’s decision to dismiss the claims against several members of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense who were accused of engaging in voter intimidation during the 2008 presidential campaign (U.S. v. New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense).

Judicial Watch filed its original FOIA request on May 29, 2009. The Justice Department acknowledged receiving the request on June 18, 2009, but then referred the request to the Office of Information Policy (OIP) and the Civil Rights Division.

On January 15, 2010, the OIP notified Judicial Watch that it would be responding
to the request on behalf of the Offices of the Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, Associate Attorney General, Public Affairs, Legislative Affairs, Legal Policy, and Intergovernmental and Public Liaison.

On January 15, the OIP also indicated that the Office of the Associate Attorney
General found 135 pages of records responsive to Judicial Watch’s request, but that all records would be withheld in full. On January 26, the OIP advised Judicial Watch that the Office of Public Affairs and Office of Legal Policy completed their searches and found no responsive documents. On February 10, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division indicated that after an extensive search it had located “numerous responsive records” but determined that “access to the majority of the records” should be denied. On March 26, the OIP indicated that the Office of Legislative Affairs and the Office of Intergovernmental and Public Liaison completed searches and found no documents.

Judicial Watch appealed the determinations of the Office of the Associate Attorney General and the Civil Rights Division. To date, Judicial Watch has received neither a
response regarding searches conducted by the Offices of the Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General, nor responses to its two administrative appeals prompting its lawsuit. The U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, an independent, bipartisan unit of the federal government charged with investigating and reporting on civil rights issues, has also initiated a probe of the Justice Department’s decision to dismiss its lawsuit.

The Justice Department originally filed its lawsuit against the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense and several of its members following an incident that took place outside of a Philadelphia polling station on November 4, 2008. A video of the
incident showing a member of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense brandishing police-style baton weapon was widely distributed on the Internet.

According to multiple witnesses, members of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense attempted to block access to polling stations, harassed voters and hurled racial epithets. Nonetheless, the Justice Department ultimately allegedly overruled the recommendations of its own staff and dismissed the majority of its claims.

“The Obama administration owes the American people an explanation. How can the Justice Department dismiss a clear-cut case of voter intimidation involving the use of a weapon? Are voting rights important at the Justice Department? If there is nothing to hide, then Eric Holder should release this information as the law requires. And this is just one more example of how Obama’s promises of transparency are a big lie,” said Judicial Watch Tom Fitton.
