More Words of Wisdom

This time they come from that bastion of free expression and liberty, Cuba.

Fidel Castro: Giffords Shot to Hurt Illegal Immigrants; Tea Party Will Take America ‘Into the Abyss’
“As is known, the state of Arizona, a territory that was snatched from Mexico by the United States together with many other expanses of land, has been the scene of painful events for the hundreds of Latin Americans who die trying to immigrate to the United States in search of work or to join parents, spouses or other close family members who are there.

In that country, it is they who do the hardest jobs and live under the constant fear of arrest and forced deportation. Despite drastic measures, the number of people dying in the attempt is growing every year and those expelled to their countries of origin annually are in the hundreds of thousands.

The number of U.S. citizens opposed to that abuse is also growing, like those who supported and, for the third time, elected the young Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords

On the other side, the Tea Party, constituted by the most reactionary and politically backward elements of society, is trying to drag the Republican Party into extremist and warmongering positions which, in the midst of the crisis and disappointment over the promises that Obama has not wanted or has been unable to fulfill, would take the country into the abyss. The relevant conclusions can de drawn from the debate that will obligatorily have to take place.”
Thats right, El Jefe' has weighed in on our treatment of illeagals and the Tea Party.

From the Patriot Post Daily Brief

Clinton-appointed District Court Judge Susan Bolton blocked most of Arizona's immigration law this week, ruling that it would "impermissibly burden federal resources." In other words, enforcing federal law is a violation of federal law. The preliminary injunction, she said, would merely preserve the status quo and be less harmful to immigrants than allowing the law to be enforced in full. The next step for Arizona is an appeal before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, where Bolton said that the Justice Department's suit was "likely to succeed on the merits."

Bolton blocked the primary provisions of the law -- including those requiring state law enforcement officials to check immigration status when other legitimate contact occurs, as well as the requirement that foreigners carry their papers at all times (federal law already requires this). On the other hand, 12 provisions, including some on human smuggling and transporting illegals, were left intact. All told, though, her ruling went even further than the DoJ had hoped.

The Department of Homeland Security is bound by federal law to "respond to an inquiry by a federal, state, or local government agency, seeking to verify or ascertain the citizenship or immigration status ... for any purpose authorized by law, by providing the requested verification or status information." Yet Bolton wrote, "An increase in the number of requests for determinations of immigration ... will divert resources from the federal government's other responsibilities and priorities." Or as National Review put it, "she accepts Justice's implicit argument that it's not the letter of the federal law that matters, but what parts of the law the executive decides to enforce."

National Review concludes:
The bottom line is that Arizona wants to enforce the law against illegal aliens. It wants them to be cognizant of the fact that the state is serious about the law, and therefore to conclude that it's best to leave or not come in the first place. Arizona did not deem these people illegal aliens. The federal government did, in laws passed by Congress and signed by the president of the United States. Arizona thinks those laws mean something. If the Justice Department's suit -- and Judge Bolton's line of argument -- prevails, then we'll know that they don't. The real law of the land will be our current, de facto amnesty, imposed by executive whim.

For the administration, the bottom line isn't the law, but getting voters from the Hispanic bloc. With the help of their Leftmedia minions, they are succeeding.

Meanwhile, America's immigration system remains broken and in desperate need of repair -- preferably by those who value and uphold the Rule of Law.

Screw With Texas At Your Own Risk

Editorial Exegesis

"National Security: A Mexican cartel plots to blow up a dam -- in Texas! Another pack of Mexican terrorists takes cash from Hugo Chavez. And what is Washington wringing its hands about? Why, racism in Arizona. If still more proof is needed that the border needs to be secured, the latest threats emerging from Mexico should do the trick. Together, they signal that the country's war could advance to a more savage stage. ... These blood-chilling scenarios aren't fantasies.

They are signs of an emerging threat that gets little attention from U.S. lawmakers. Instead of focusing on making the border secure, they play partisan political games, pandering to potential voting blocs by dangling amnesty in front of illegal immigrants, grandstanding against Arizona's effort to enforce federal law and coming up with one excuse after another for not erecting a border fence. As illegal armed groups plot to blow up infrastructure even in this country, Democrats in Congress are more concerned about an illegal immigrant getting his feelings hurt if a police officer in Arizona asks him to show some ID." --Investor's Business Daily

Morning Reads from the DCExaminer

Byron York - Sestak a no-go for any job. So what was the deal?
The bottom line is Sestak, as a member of Congress, could not have served on most, if not all, of the boards the White House claims it considered for him. Did the politically savvy Obama team really not know that? Or is the White House not telling us something?

Julie Mason - Obama, Ariz. governor still at odds on immigration after meeting
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer pressed President Obama in a private meeting to step up border security efforts, saying later that "we agreed to try and work together."

Sara Carter - Mexican plan to distribute IDs to illegals in California draws fire
Mexican officials and a California congressman engaged in a verbal battle Thursday over whether it was appropriate for Mexico to set up a consular office on Catalina Island to issue ID cards to illegal immigrants.

Susan Ferrechio -Senate front-runners survive bumpy starts
Rand Paul and Richard Blumenthal are apparently facing a very forgiving electorate.
Despite recent controversial comments made by the two men, who are running for the open U.S. Senate seats in Kentucky and Connecticut, respectively, they remain significantly ahead in the polls and seem to have survived any immediate political damage.

Hey Hey Ho Ho Napoleontano Has To Go

ICE chief won't process illegals from Arizona
Ed Lasky

In the age of Attorney General Eric Holder - who not only won't pursue the case against the New Black Panther Party, who won't investigate the allegations that Joe Sestak was illegally offered inducements by the Obama administration to drop his primary challenge against Arlen Specter, who won't investigate similar offers made by the Obama team to former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff to drop his primary challenge to Senator Michael Bennett, who won't investigate ACORN on possible racketeering charges, who has a blase approach towards terrorism and who cannot even utter the words "Islamic terrorism" - should we be surprised that John Morton, who heads U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, proudly declare he won't process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona state officials?

This team is looking at the November elections and realize their refusal to enforce federal laws can reap political payoffs.

From the New York Post's Capitol Punishment blog:

The country's top federal immigration enforcement cop says his agency won't be doing its job . "John Morton, who heads U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, said his agency will not necessarily process illegal immigrants referred to them by Arizona officials. The best way to reduce illegal immigration is through a comprehensive federal approach, not a patchwork of state laws, he said.

‘I don't think the Arizona law, or laws like it, are the solution,' Morton said during a visit to the Chicago Tribune editorial board.

And Morton's opinion is relevant how exactly? Well, it is relevant in the sense that a senior Homeland Security official has openly declared that he won't be doing his job. Morton has sworn an oath to uphold the laws of the United States. He is not allowed to pick and choose which ones he likes and which he doesn't.

Perhaps Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano could do something right for a change and fire this guy.

For this administration, Lady Justice does not wear a blindfold and whether a law is
enforced is determined by identity politics and one's level of savings.

Michael Barone - The Left loses its way by abandoning 'third way'
Now, less than a generation later, both New Democrats and New Labor seem defunct.

Chris Stirewalt - Crist can't count on the white vote to carry him
A racially divided electorate produces racially skewed electoral outcomes.

Byron York - Top 10 dumbest things said about the Arizona immigration law
The last few days have seen an extraordinary outburst of criticism of Arizona’s new immigration law. In the nation’s elite media outlets, its most respected commentators are portraying the law as an act of police-state repression. Many, if not all, of the specific criticisms can be refuted simply by reading the law itself, but others are more generalized criticisms of immigration enforcement. In any event, it’s hard to choose the most over-the-top and wrongheaded commentary on the law, but here are ten choices, in no particular order.

Susan Ferrechio - For Dems, new finance law may be a matter of survival
Democrats are pushing speedy passage of legislation that would impose disclosure requirements on groups that spend money to influence elections. But opponents are calling it a partisan bill written to help shield dozens of vulnerable Democratic incumbents who stand to lose their seats in November.

Obama all but accuses critics of stoking anti-government violence
"What troubles me is when I hear people say that all of government is inherently bad," Obama said after receiving an honorary doctor of laws degree. "When our government is spoken of as some menacing, threatening foreign entity, it ignores the fact that in our democracy, government is us."

DCExaminer Morning Email

Byron York - How Obama could lose Arizona immigration battle
The drafters of the law knew the lawsuit was coming; a lawsuit is always coming when a state tries to enforce the nation's immigration laws. What the drafters didn't expect was Obama's aggressive and personal role in trying to undermine the new measure.
"You can imagine, if you are a Hispanic American in Arizona ..." the president said Tuesday at a campaign-style appearance in Iowa, "suddenly, if you don't have your papers and you took your kid out to get ice cream, you're going to be harassed."

Julie Mason - Bill Clinton has no shortage of time or opinions

In irregular rotation, the former president can be found: below the radar, on international rescue, or prominently off-message. Lately, it's a bit of the latter.
"I am not sure they violated the law," Clinton said earlier this week of Goldman Sachs, the investment bank being sued for fraud by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

J.P. Freire - Obama made $5m in 2009 and tells us we've made enough?
This comes on top of the other millions of dollars Obama received in previous years. The fact that Obama has been in the public spotlight as a politician has undoubtedly had an impact on the royalties of his two books as well. Go ahead and compare Obama’s 2009 income with other presidents here.

Susan Ferrechio - Bitter breakup between Crist and GOP in Fla. Senate race
The move could save his political career. As a Republican, Crist was trailing his more conservative opponent, Marco Rubio, by 20 points in the party's primary but runs much closer in polls with a third-party candidate in November.

Byron York - On AZ immigration, Gerson responds to me; I respond to him
Gerson’s big point is that when people like me “fail to comprehend” that being asked for a driver’s license is more burdensome in some circumstances than in others, it “reveals a fundamental lack of empathy.” But here’s the thing. If you are doing something illegal, then mundane interactions with the police are always a potential problem. Just look at the amazing variety of wrongdoing police discover as a result of routine traffic stops. When cops stop somebody with an expired tag, they aren’t necessarily looking for guns or meth or a guy wanted for skipping out on his debts. But that’s what they sometimes find.

Nazi RINO

Arizona puts the 'AZ' in Nazi?
(H/T Glenn Beck)

Because Arizona has taken the audacious step to make illegal immigration illegal, some lawmakers are calling for companies to boycott the state. The opposition to this law is quite confusing - what is it they are upset about exactly? Some politicians are now saying this law is reminiscent of Nazi Germany. Wait, didn't the left say it's out of bounds to make Nazi comparisons? ( Transcript, Insider Audio)

If you re-arrange the letters in Arizona, it spells Nazi RINO!!!!! Coincidence?

The louder the liberals holler, the better the law in question. This Arizona immigration law that was just passed must be the best law ever written, judging from the reactions of the leftist intelligentsia.

Byron York - A carefully crafted immigration law in Arizona
The chattering class is aghast at Arizona's new immigration law. "Harkens back to apartheid," says the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Cynthia Tucker. "Shameful," says the Washington Post's E.J. Dionne. "Terrible--an invitation to abuse," says the New York Times' David Brooks.
For his part, President Obama calls the law "misguided" and says it "threaten[s] to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans." Obama has ordered the Justice Department to "closely monitor the situation and examine the civil rights and other implications of this legislation."
Has anyone actually read the law?

Sara Carter - Risk grows that Israel will go alone to take out Iranian nukes
The growing rift between the Obama administration and Israel, coupled with the administration’s failure to rein in Tehran’s nuclear program, has increased the chances that the Israelis will eventually launch an attack on Iran, experts said.

Julie Mason - Obama's election year pitch leaves out white males
President Obama's tricky, midterm election strategy relies on luring back the first-time voters who supported him in 2008 plus re-engaging women, blacks, young voters and Hispanics.

Susan Ferrechio - Another try for bipartisan bank bill after GOP blocks Dems' plan
Senate Republicans, along with one Democrat, voted to block a bill to overhaul the nation's financial system and create new layers of government oversight.
It was a major show of unity for Republicans, who believe the bill imposes overly burdensome regulations and would institutionalize government bailouts.

Dead Voters? Illegal Voters?

EDITORIAL: Letting crooks & illegals vote
Washington Times

It speaks volumes about Democratic unpopularity that they have to look to criminals and illegal aliens to try to shore up their voting base.

Sen. Charles E. Schumer, New York Democrat, and Rep. Barney Frank, Massachusetts Democrat, have plans to ram through legislation that will produce universal voter registration. No matter what they claim, the rule changes will make it possible for illegal aliens to register to vote and for others to register multiple times.

The proposal is to register everyone on every welfare list, everyone getting unemployment insurance, everyone with a driver's license, everyone who has had run-ins with the legal system, everyone owning any property - basically everyone on every list the government keeps. People will be registered to vote whether or not they want to be registered. If individuals are on any public record, they will be automatically registered.

The legislation is also expected to give felons the right to vote. Why Democrats insist on letting someone who has raped multiple women vote on social policy is beyond us. According to Democrats, robbers who have preyed on helpless victims - and even murderers - have the judgment to tell us how law enforcement should be run in this country.

In May 2005, Public Opinion Strategies surveyed felons who had their voting rights restored and nonfelons who voted in Washington state. Even after accounting for the voters' race, gender, education level, religious habits, employment, age and county of residence, the book Freedomnomics found that "felons were 36 percent more likely than nonfelons with the same characteristics to have voted for [John] Kerry [a Democrat] over [George W.] Bush [a Republican] and 37 percent more likely to be registered Democratic."

Casualties in the War on Illegal Immigration

Congressman Reprimands Father of Teen Killed by Drunk-Driving Illegal Alien for Calling Criminal Aliens 'Banditos' -
By Penny Starr, Senior Staff Writer (CNSNews.com) –

In emotional testimony before a House joint panel this week, a Virginia man recalled the death of his teenage daughter in 2007 – a death caused by an illegal immigrant who was driving drunk and who had been arrested twice before the crime, but was not deported.

“Two years ago this week, my 16-year-old daughter, Tessa, and her best friend Allison were killed as they were sitting at in intersection waiting for a red light to change,” Ray Tranchant said, as friends placed a photograph of Tessa Tranchant on an easel behind him. Since his daughter’s death, Tranchant, a professor from VIrginia Beach, has become an advocate for the enforcement of immigration law.

On Thursday, as Tranchant applauded local law enforcement in Virginia for its increased efforts to work with federal immigration authorities since his daughter’s death, he referred to individuals listed on the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s database of illegal aliens with criminal backgrounds as “banditos.”

That comment drew a rebuff from Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.).“Mr. Tranchant, can I share with you as the father of two daughters, I thank you for bringing your testimony here, but I suggest to you that if we refer to people as banditos, as you referred to them in your testimony, it does not help to solve the problem,” Gutierrez said.

To Comrade Gutierrez:
You sanctimonious self-rightous pompous a$$hole, YOU and your comrades in the Politboro are the ones responsible for the death of that man's daughter.

YOU and your comrades have the blood of American citizens on YOUR HANDS for not enforcing the immigration laws.

That man deserves as much respect as any Gold Star parent. His daughter was KIA by an illegal combatant on American soil.

Where is your sense of decency, man? Where is your compassion? You're an a$$hole.

I can assure you if it were MY daughter, "bandito" would be the mildest term you'd hear me use.

So What Kind of Change Can We Expect?

Family Security Matters

How would Barack Hussein Obama govern if elected to the presidency? With less than one term as a U.S. senator, and with most of that time having been spent running for president, it’s a little hard to say but there are certainly some good indicators. There is no question that Obama is very liberal (the most liberal U.S. senator, based on a National Journal vote ranking). With a voting record in line with folks like John Kerry, Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer et al, an Obama presidency would certainly mean more government “solutions” to our problems. We already have plenty of that now, so the only “change” would be more of the same – except in greater quantities.

What about defending our borders? Millions of illegal aliens are now in this country draining our resources, closing down hospitals that can no longer afford to provide them free treatment, demanding we learn Spanish rather than they learning English, depositing “anchor babies” on our soil who immediately become citizens and “entitled” to gobs of goodies at taxpayer expense. The Bush Administration has done nothing to impede the flow, and it is quite evident Obama – “the agent of change” – will do nothing either. Obama actually agrees with the illegals by the way, and thinks your children should learn Spanish. Sounds like more of the same, only pushed absurdly even further.

What about increasing oil supplies? We could start lifting these restrictions on drilling for our own oil and building refineries, and the price of oil would go down. It has the added benefit of decreasing our dependence on the Middle East. For years, our own government has kept us dependent on OPEC, rather than looking for ways to become self-reliant. Barack Obama is opposed to drilling offshore or in ANWR. Change? Sounds like more of the same to me…

What about out of control judges who legislate from the bench? Courts packed with liberal judges have been pushing liberal causes down our throats for some time now. What types of judges would Obama appoint? He has spoken glowing words of praise for Stephen G. Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David H. Souter. Not exactly my idea of strict constructionists who follow the intent of the constitution. With more of these types being added to federal courts that are already chock full of liberals, we’d be getting, yes – more of the same.

McCain! WTF are you doing? Are you TRYING to lose the Conservative vote? Why do you have a traitor working for you? If he has dual citizenship and works for the benefit of ANOTHER country against ours, he is a TRAITOR.

via Michelle Malkin

Dr. Juan Hernandez, McCain Hispanic outreach director: “We must not only have a free flow of goods and services, but also start working for a free flow of people.”

In an interview on ABC News’s Nightline, Hernandez stated bluntly that he was betting that the Mexican American population in the United States –all generations– “will think Mexico first…”I want ‘em all to think Mexico first.”

In an MSNBC interview of Congressman Tancredo:
...he himself is a dual citizen born in Texas, university—teaching at the University of Texas and on the Vicente Fox cabinet. And he said, “I work with the community in the United States, the Mexican community because I don‘t want them essentially going native on us. We want them continually tied emotionally, linguistically, politically to Mexico, because then they‘ll continue to send money home.”

And I said to him, that does not sound like—you know, you‘re doing something that‘s actually the act of an unfriendly government.

TANCREDO: At the end he goes, “Congressman,” in an incredibly condescending way. He goes, “Congressman, it‘s not two countries; it‘s just a region.”

Pelosi wants more illegals to be counted

Apparently Pelosi doesn't want to enforce the laws as written. She wants to do an end run around the Constitution and the law. Can I question her patriotism YET?
According to the amendment, Immigration lessened enforcement, during past census taking, so as to not "frighten" illegals into hiding. The census wants to count them. Oh, and as a side note, representation for those states increases because of the illegal population increases their overall population numbers. Which state is Pelosi representing? That's right. The sanctuary state of California. Guess what? Stop counting them in the census. If a locality has too many illegals for the budget, maybe that area will stop being a sanctuary.

McDonnell Lands Explosive Uppercut

Who saw this one coming? Holy smoke! Grab a Guinness, light up a cigar and read the letter Attorney General Bob McDonnell (R) sent out to the powers that be. We'll have no more whining from the peanut gallery about Republican leadership. Virginia has some remarkable men stepping into the ring and it is exciting as all get out!

The Press Release
09/05/07
McDonnell Letter Calls for Immediate Federal Action on Criminal Illegal Immigration

Letter Sent to President George W. Bush; Speaker Nancy Pelosi;
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Richmond- Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell released a 5-page letter today calling on the federal government to immediately act to combat the growing criminal illegal immigration problem in the United States. The letter was sent to President George W. Bush; Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi; and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Copied on the letter was the Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, Timothy Kaine; United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff; and the Virginia Congressional delegation.
A few quotes from THE letter. It ain't pretty.
I write on behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia to ask that you take immediate action to address the issue of illegal immigration, particularly illegal immigrants who commit crimes. Any crime committed by an illegal immigrant is one too many, and the recent news coverage of murders, DUI-related deaths, and fraudulent identification document crimes perpetrated by illegal aliens is resulting in an increasingly concerned citizenry. The borders are not yet secure, the administration and enforcement of the immigration system is cumbersome and ineffective, and the public safety problems caused by criminal illegal aliens are growing. This is unacceptable.
Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
The federal government has put the states in an untenable postition: Congress has enaacted laws which are not properly enforced due to the understaffing of the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). At the same time, Congress has preempted enactment of state laws regulating emmployers who knowingly hire illegal aliens, and largely precluded states from enforcing federal immigration violations. It is intolerable that the federal government has failed to do its job, while severely limiting states from acting.
Watch out! He's got the Governor on the ropes.
I have repeatedly asked Virginia's Governor to exercise his authority to enter into agreements with ICE permitted by Section 287(g) of the 1996 Amendment to the Immigration and Nationality Act, to permit limited state enforcement of federal immigration law concerning illegal aliens who commit serious crimes. The Governor has repeatedly declined to do so.
Whew! I haven't enjoyed a fight this much since Tom Daschle lost his Senate seat.
