What Happened to Seal Team 6

"Extortion 17" was the call sign for the Chinook helicopter full of 38 brave military personnel (including 17 Navy SEALS from Team 6) that was shot down August 6, 2011, in the Tanji Valley of Afghanistan.   This tragedy occurred a few short months after Osama Bin Laden was killed (May 2) by members of SEAL Team 6.  

No doubt, you remember hearing that horrifying news. But what have we heard since?  Nothing, until last Thursday, when parents of three lost SEALs and one Army National Guardsman spoke at the National Press Club and pleaded for an investigation into what went wrong.  They were joined by retired, high-ranking military officers who expressed grave concern about what is happening within the military's ranks.  

This press conference came a day after the Benghazi hearings.  I watched both in their entirety, and wept over the stories of heroism, duty and honor .... and unanswered questions.  

Below you'll find links to the press release announcing the SEAL families' press conference, and to articles about the conference which I believe fairly capture the essence of those 3 hours.  (The last link is to a story published right after the helicopter crash happened, based on official reports at the time.) 

The families spoke convincingly about research they have done to learn the truth about what breakdowns in procedure apparently occurred. And they accused, sometimes by name, high ranking members of the military for lying to them. 

Possibly most disturbing, we learned that the 7 Afghans listed on the helicopter manifest who were supposed to be flying with our troops, were pulled off the flight at the last minute, but the manifest was never changed.  The implication is that these Afghanis may have fed intelligence to the enemy about the Chinook's flight plans, and that our troops were purposely sent to their deaths in retaliation for the killing of Bin Laden. (You'll hear more about that by listening to the press conference.) 

Two members of Congress attended the press conference (Rep. Louis Gomert and Rep. Michelle Bachman), and they are working with colleagues to demand an investigation into what happened to Extortion 17.  In addition, Freedom Watch is preparing a lawsuit, which we will hear more about in the near future.  

Friends, I plead with you to watch the video of the press conference.  It is gut-wrenching, it is heart-breaking.  But this is a story that must be told and investigated.  It is unfathomable that brave members of our military would be sent to their death with malice of forethought.  And this is exactly what some are charging about Benghazi.  The fog will lift, when the public's outcry demands it.

Three families of Navy SEAL Team VI special forces servicemen, along with one family of an Army National Guardsman, will appear at a press conference on May 9, 2013, to disclose never before revealed information about how and why their sons along with 26 others died in a fatal helicopter crash in Afghanistan on August 6, 2011, just a few months after the successful raid on the compound of Osama Bin Laden that resulted in the master terrorist's death.

Accompanying the families of these dead Navy SEAL Team VI special operations servicemen will be retired military experts verifying their accounts of how and why the government is as much responsible for the deaths of their sons as is the Taliban.

The areas of inquiry at the press conference will include but not be limited to:

1. How President Obama and Vice President Biden, having disclosed on May 4, 2011, that Navy Seal Team VI carried out the successful raid on Bin Laden’s compound resulting in the master terrorist’s death, put a retaliatory target on the backs of the fallen heroes.

2. How and why high-level military officials sent these Navy SEAL Team VI heroes into battle without special operations aviation and proper air support.

3. How and why middle-level military brass carries out too many ill-prepared missions to boost their standing with top-level military brass and the Commander-in-Chief in order that they can be promoted.

4. How the military restricts special operations servicemen and others from engaging in timely return fire when fired upon by the Taliban and other terrorist groups and interests, thus jeopardizing the servicemen’s lives.

5. How and why the denial of requested pre-assault fire may have contributed to the shoot down of the Navy SEAL Team VI helicopter and the death of these special operations servicemen.

6. How Afghani forces accompanying the Navy SEAL Team VI servicemen on the helicopter were not properly vetted and how they possibly disclosed classified information to the Taliban about the mission, resulting in the shoot down of the helicopter.

7. How military brass, while prohibiting any mention of a Judeo-Christian God, invited a Muslim cleric to the funeral for the fallen Navy SEAL Team VI heroes who disparaged in Arabic the memory of these servicemen by damning them as infidels to Allah. “Rogue” U.S. General Arrested for Activating Special Forces Teams; Ignoring Libya Stand-Down Order

The official story surrounding the events of September 11, 2012 in Bengzahi, Libya which left four Americans dead, has now officially fallen apart.

After numerous flips and flops by the Obama administration, which originally attempted to paint the incident as a Muslim outcry over an anti-Islamic video, throughout the U.S. government, including within the White House, the State Department, national intelligence agencies and the U.S.military have made available stunning details that suggest not only did operational commanders have live visual and audio communications from drones overhead and intelligence assets on the ground, but that some commanders within the military were prepared to go-it-alone after being told to “stand down.”

Africom commanding officer U.S. General Carter Ham, after being ordered to essentially surrender control of the situation to alleged Al Queda terrorists and let Americans on the ground die, made the unilateral decision to ignore orders from the Secretary of Defense and activated special operations teams at his disposal for immediate deployment to the area.

According to reports, once went rogue he was arrested within minutes by his second in command and relieved of duty.

“(The) basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on; without having some real-time information about what’s taking place,” Panetta told Pentagon reporters. “And as a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, Gen. Ham, Gen. Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation.”

The information I heard today was that General Ham as head of Africom received the same e-mails the White House received requesting help/support as the attack was taking place. General Ham immediately had a rapid unit ready and communicated to the Pentagon that he had a unit ready.

General Ham then received the order to stand down. His response was to screw it, he was going to help anyhow. Within 30 seconds to a minute after making the move to respond, his second in command apprehended General Ham and told him that he was now relieved of his command.

The question now is whether the American people will hold to account the chain of command responsible for leaving our people behind, fabricating a politically expedient story, and continuing to sell the now defunct lie(s) even after all of their variations of the story were found to be false and misleading.

A General who made the decision to assist diplomatic and intelligence assets on the ground has been arrested and will likely be retired or worse, while those who ordered the removal of embassy security details and ordered U.S. forces to stand-down are left to go on about their business and likely risk more American lives in the future.

In some circles the actions of those at the very top of the command structure during the Bengzahi attacks would be considered traitorous.

Yesterday, the CIA insisted that "No one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate." The denial is in reference to the report that the CIA held back forces from helping the Americans who were under attack in Benghazi, Libya on 9/11.

And today, the White House is making a similar claim. "Neither the president nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi," an Obama administration spokesman tells Yahoo's Olivier Knox.

They can and will say whatever they have to in order to deflect the responsibility for the murder of 4 Americans from the CiC to anyone else. They don't care who gets blamed, as long as it aint them. This is a pattern of shirking responsibilty that seems to be most prevelant in the dhimmicrat mindset. Obama is the only one who could have given the order to go/no-go.

Now Stars and Stripes is reporting that some senior level field officers are facing charges for their reactions to the orders to stand down. Apparently, the military will get the blame for Bengahzi for criticizing the order to stand down.

A Combat Veteran Has Some Words of Wisdom

Uncle Jimbo put a piece up while I was composing this one and fighting the "blue screen syndrome."

A terrorist network is a hydra. It has many heads. We've managed to cut off four of the hydras' heads, but there are more. They will not stop just because one more of their leaders is now less than room temperature. Were there true justice, UBF would have been tossed overboard with a double rack of ribs hung around his neck still kicking. What I want is UBF's head on a pike stuck in the ground out front of Ground Zero for a week. Then we do the tour. A week in front of the Pentagon; a week at Shanksville. Then we tell KSM and the rest of them that we're gonna do the same thing with them as soon as we find them guilty and kill their sorry asses.

My bud Major Z has a piece up you should read. I have the first three paragraphs here, but you need to make the jump and read the whole thing. Remember, this man has "been there, done that" and has a t-shirt.

There is one less Saudi-born terrorist multibillionaire in the world today. I met the news of the death of Osama bin Laden (hereafter referred to as UBF, for UglyBeardedFuckstick™) believe it or not, with mixed emotions.
Relief, because I knew that there was one less truly evil sonofabitch roaming the planet, making plans to kill my family. Granted, he wasn’t very likely to specifically target my family, but then again, I am the #1 google result for “new funny pictures” so there is always the possibility.
Gratitude, for the hundreds of thousands of military personnel, and the millions of their family members who have sacrificed so much through all of this, and will continue to sacrifice, as this is not the end, any more than killing Hitler in 1942 would’ve brought an end to WWII. Sure, we stand outside the Whitehouse and in Times square and celebrate and clap and sing and whatever else goes on at these rallies, but it is the families and friends of our fighting men and women who are truly the ones who show support for the troops, far more than a one-off rally or a car magnet. It is to these silent heroes that we, the military, owe our undying love and gratitude.
Apprehension, because our enemy may very well be emboldened to double down, now that UBF has been brought to room temperature. Ask yourself, if AQ were to attack and kill the US President, despite what you may think of his administration, would you want, even more, to hunt down and kill everyone even remotely responsible? What about when you saw pictures of the jubilant celebrations in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, etc. on 9/12/01? Do you remember how you felt when you saw that? Do you think our enemy will feel differently? The DoD has raised the force protection level across the board--but a smart enemy (and only fools believe their enemy to be anything else) will bide his time, and wait for us to become complacent.

First the Obama Administration opened up the possibility of prosecuting CIA interrogators doing their jobs seeking information from terrorists. Then they tried to go after the Bush Administration lawyers who acted in good faith to protect us in the months after 9/11.

Now some of the military brass are court-martialing three brave Navy SEALs for allegedly throwing a single punch at Iraqi terrorist leader Ahmed Hashim Abed. This is wrong. The Washington Times got it right: Save the SEALs.

These brave warriors belong in combat, not in the courthouse. They captured the most wanted terrorist in Iraq. We may never know how many other heroic missions they undertook on behalf of our country. The charges should be dropped, and they should be returned to their unit – with our gratitude for their service.

Stand up for the SEALs who are standing up for us!

She's a Blue Star Mom. I would expect nothing less, but there are a few inconsistencies here;

First, the SEALs ASKED for a court-martial in order to get a fair and complete airing of the evidence, rather than jeporadize their careers with an administrative reprimand.

Second, the chain of custody for this POS terrorist indicates he was in Iraqi custody prior to being transferred to US custody and we don't know how the Iraqi's treated him.

What is the Navy brass thinking?

On Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day, a Navy SEAL - one of an elite band of highly skilled and extraordinarily brave American warriors - faced arraignment. The charge: He punched a terrorist.

To be precise, he punched a terrorist suspect - Ahmed Hashim Abed, the alleged ringleader behind the killing, burning and mutilating of four American contractors in Fallujah, Iraq, in March 2004.

Abed was run down by the SEALs in September 2009. Exactly what happened after that is a bit hazy. He spent time in U.S. custody, then in Iraqi custody and eventually was returned to U.S. custody. At some point, he claimed one of the Americans punched him in the stomach, or maybe on the mouth.

Three SEALs are now in trouble. Petty Officer 2nd Class Matthew McCabe stands accused of assault. Petty Officers Julio Heurtas and Jonathan Keefe are being charged with "impeding the investigation and dereliction of duty in failing to safeguard a detainee."
Surely, these SEALs, like all American citizens, deserve the presumption of innocence. It's also worth recalling that the al Qaeda manual recommends that all detainees complain of torture and abuse.

But what if it turns out that one of the SEALs did give the guy a shot? What if Abed was uncooperative, or spit at them, or bragged about how he slaughtered the Americans (one of whom was a retired SEAL) and how they begged for their lives and squealed like pigs as they died? I can imagine how a normal guy - even one as disciplined as a SEAL - might lose his temper for a moment.

In that case, I wouldn't expect a senior officer to turn a blind eye. I'd expect him to take the SEALs aside and say, "You guys cut out the John Wayne stuff or you're going to be peeling potatoes for the next six months. Understood?" The reply would be: "Yes, sir! Understood, sir!" And that would be the end of that.

But a court-martial? Maybe there's more to it than we know. How much more could there be? Abed is alive. He has two eyes, two ears, 10 fingers and 10 toes. This much is clear: If a single alleged knuckle sandwich is all it takes to remove three Special Operators from the battlefield, Abed won this battle.

In his remarks accepting the Nobel Peace Prize, President Obama said, "And even as we confront a vicious adversary that abides by no rules, I believe the United States of America must remain a standard bearer in the conduct of war. That is what makes us different from those whom we fight."

I agree. Our troops should uphold the highest standards. Notwithstanding such rare but extravagantly publicized lapses as Abu Ghraib, they do exhibit a degree of self-restraint that no other military, now or in the past, can match.

But the notion that international law provides strict legal protections for terrorists is a new and dubious innovation, cooked up by transnational lawyers seeking power for themselves and their organizations, along with unprecedented limitations on American sovereignty.

The Geneva Conventions are treaties that bind signatories in order to render conflicts among those signatories less brutal. The Geneva Conventions were never designed to protect those who have not signed them and who routinely violate them.

As Mr. Obama rightly noted, terrorists abide by no rules. Therefore, they are not entitled to the protection of the rules. If we treat them humanely - as we do and as we should - that is our choice based on our values, our standards, our humanity.

A terrorist in American custody should be aware that he is in the presence of principled professionals. But he should not believe that he is untouchable or that he is entitled to the rights enjoyed by an American citizen under the U.S. Constitution, a document he would gladly trample underfoot.

He should know that the troops who detain him are not like him. They won't chop off his head on videotape while chanting praise for a divinity pleased by the carnage. But he also should know that if he asks for a fat lip, he might just get a fat lip.

Department of Military Correctness: SEALs Face Courts Martial

As if there weren't already enough evidence that Obama's war "leadership" is insane... On Sept. 3 in Iraq, three of our elite SEALs captured Ahmed Hashim Abed, a high value target whom the military had code-named "Objective Amber."

Abed was responsible for murdering four Blackwater employees in March 2004 and hanging their charred bodies from a bridge over the Euphrates River near Fallujah for the entire world to see. Clearly, Abed was someone the U.S. wanted, and our SEALs expertly and professionally captured him this past September. Time for saluting our heroes and giving them commendations, right?

Fat chance, because somehow Abed got a fat lip, or possibly a punch in the stomach, by one of our SEALs -- or so he says. Standard jihadi operating procedure, after all, is to claim abuse at the first opportunity. And in today's upside-down, PC military, such "extensive abuse" of a prisoner means that our three SEAL heroes will, unbelievably, be facing courts martial for possibly injuring a wanted terrorist while capturing him.

The three heroes, Petty Officers Matthew McCabe, Jonathan Keefe and Julio Huertas, could have chosen an administrative hearing, leaving them with no possibility of jail time or dishonorable discharges, but tarnishing their reputations forever. Instead, like the men they are and knowing they are in the right, they chose a court martial, which could (and should) exonerate them completely, though, if convicted, it could also land them behind bars and end their military careers.

Leaving aside the question of how, or even whether, Abed was hurt, does a sane country prosecute its own soldiers for fighting and capturing the enemy? Why are these young heroes standing trial for bringing an enemy suspect in alive? Where is the outrage?

Six Important Facts About the Assault Charges Three Navy SEALs Face for Doing Their Jobs

In recent years, I’ve published too many posts about members of the Armed Forces facing undeserved charges:

First, it was the so-called “Haditha Marines” who faced trumped-up charges, thanks largely to idiots like Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) declaring them guilty before a mainstream media eager to paint them in a bad light.

Next, it was Army Ranger 1st Lt. Michael Behenna who was wrongly convicted of executing an Iraqi detainee, Ali Mansur, on May 16, 2008, and is now serving a 25-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

Now, I’m following the case of three Navy SEALs facing assault charges related to their capture of Ahmed Hashim Abed.

Who is Abed? He’s the alleged planner of the March 2004 ambush, killing and mutilation of four Blackwater contractors in Fallujah, Iraq. The SEALS gave this enemy combatant piece of dirt a fat lip while apprehending him.

As my first investigative reporting effort related to the SEALs’ case, I offer six important facts about the case you’re likely not to read about in the mainstream media supplied to me by a source whom I cannot name inside the Pentagon:

1) The charges or accusations against the three Navy SEALs were not made from within the SEAL community. Sources tell me they came from someone within the Navy’s Master-at-Arm community.

2) The SEALs were presented with the option of going to Captain’s Mast for these charges but declined this form of non-judicial punishment and opted for court-martial instead. Why? Because they did not want to be judged by those outside of the SEAL community and believed the court-martial route would assure them the representation necessary to prove their innocence.

3) At no time did anyone within the Naval Special Warfare community have any control over these accusations or events other than providing advice or guidance to the accused SEALs.

4) The integrity of the chain of custody of the prisoner is at question.

5) There are extenuating circumstances that indicate there is questionable evidence in some of the accusations made.

6) Evidence will come out in a court-martial that might not have come out in a Captain’s Mast in favor of the accused SEALs.

If we continue to punish our Warriors for doing the job we trained them and then asked them to do, do not be surprised when we arrive at the point where our Warriors say No.

As former President George W. Bush would say, Ahmed Hasim Abed is an evildoer. He masterminded the killing of four American military contractors and ordered the desecration of their bodies in Fallujah, Iraq, in 2004. Abed was considered a high-value target in the war on terror, so when three Navy SEALs brought him to justice, they should have been hailed as heroes.

Instead, they were reprimanded for allegedly injuring Abed. After being turned over to Iraqi authorities, Abed complained of being punched, which caused -- quelle horreur!-- a bloody lip. All three SEALS requested and were granted court marshals in order to clear their names. Those proceedings will convene in January. The SEALs surely believe they acted appropriately because military courts are notoriously strict and severe compared with civilian courts.

The incident with the SEALs highlights an uncomfortable truth about the Obama era: Terrorists operating on foreign soil get more favorable legal treatment than uniformed members of the American military, who risk their lives to protect and defend the Constitution.

This injustice is not lost on the SEALs, who are afraid the Navy won't even grant them due process. "We have terrorists getting their constitutional rights in New York City, but I suspect that they're going to deny these SEALs their right to confrontation in a military courtroom in Virginia," said Neal Puckett, a lawyer who is defending one of the accused.

The Navy's treatment of these SEALs suggests the military has learned nothing from previous hasty attempts at military justice in Iraq. In 2006, an inquest was prompted by a Time magazine article titled "The Shame of Kilo Company." Eight Marines were quickly rounded up and charged with massacring civilians. Time later ran multiple corrections of the story, and the magazine's primary source turned out to be of dubious character. Six of the Marines have since been cleared or acquitted of all charges. Of the remaining two Marines whose charges remain unresolved, one wasn't even present for the alleged crimes, and the other's chief accuser was "not being truthful," according to one Naval Criminal Investigative Service report. The only shame belongs to Time magazine and overzealous military prosecutors.

The Navy has offered no public defense of its arbitrary disciplining of the SEALs based on the word of a murderous terrorist. Was it fear of bad publicity, or simply investigatory or prosecutorial incompetence?

Whatever the explanation, the SEALs deserve their day in court, and the Navy should do whatever is needed to ensure this kind of railroading never occurs again.

History has proven that our local Norfolk Police Dept has been very happy with any civil rally, specially when supporting our military. Remember to thank the Police Officers for being there and for the hard work that they do for us as citizens as well. Simply, put a smile on their face. You must provide your own transportation. Several shopping centers have bus lines up and down Hampton Blvd. There is even a large parking lot on Hampton Blvd so car pooling might not be a bad idea, they will likely fill up quickly.

On December 7, the three SEALs are set to go before a Judge and plead not guilty. This first court appearance is only the arraignment and the actual trial is set to being sometime in January.

As of right now, unconfirmed reports say that the arraignment will take place at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, VA on December 7; however, we are still trying to figure out the exact time(s) and location(s).

I’m sure all of you agree that this is a complete outrage and mockery of our US Military. As Americans, we CANNOT stand for this and MUST show our support for our troops who are constantly being put in harms way to protect the country that is now bring them under fire. We must send a message that “political correctness” has reached a boiling point and that these service men will not be hung out to dry.

I put this protest event together in hopes that it would gather locals in the area who would show their support that day. I, myself, am located in Fort Worth, Texas, so chances are slim to none that I will make it out next week. I do not expect to see thousands show up for the arraignment; however, it would be nice to see a decent crowd showing their support that day. The big protests need to come in January when they go on trial. This is when we all need to make the sacrifice of traveling to support them. Don’t get me wrong though, if you want to travel to Norfolk on the 7th, please do so, I just don’t want our efforts to be misused this early in the game.

So, with that said, I ask everyone, within reason, to take to Norfolk, VA Naval Base on the 7 and send a message loud and clear that we stand behind them.
