On a personal note, I'm reposting a post from January 7, 2011.

Another Hero Lost

Army Spc. Christian J. Romig,(seen in the center, facing away) 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, Task Force Panther, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, was killed on Wednesday when an IED destroyed his vehicle.

He was the nephew of a sister-in-law. I had the misfortune not to actually know him, but received word yesterday.

He received the Combat Action Badge just last month from Sec. of Defense Gates while at Forward Operating Base Connolly in eastern Afghanistan.

God Speed.

And God bless his family.

Richmond Military Society 5K Run-Blogger Challenge

The Richmond Military Society's 5K run is 26 March.

They want to line the route with American flags in memory of all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the GWOT. You can help by purchasing a flag for six bucks at the link above.

Six Dollars, people. ($6.00) One decent meal at Macdonald's. You don't really need that double-meat double-cheese 50,000 calorie heart attack detonator, do you?

From a friend (and Gold Star Wife of a Sky Angel):
Flags will line the course of Richmond Military Society 5k for the American Widow Project. Each flag represents a soldier we have lost during the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars.

The editorial staff here at United Conservatives will be stepping up and providing at least 10 in memory of the Sky Angels from the Second-503 173DABN.

I challenge the ODBA and the readers at BNN to match us.

HR 2546

A mesage from the folks who manufacture and market our Service Flags

We Need Your Help!
Families in certain areas are being told to take down their Service Flag because its display violates the rules of the homeowner or condo association.

On May 21, 2009, Congressman John A. Boccieri (D-OH), an Iraqi war Veteran, introduced HR 2546 (http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.2546.IH:) l "To ensure that the right of an individual to display the Service Flag on residential property not be abridged. "
The Bill was introduced without co-sponsors, so we need your help to get Congress to pass this Bill - we want you to write to your Congressman, and we've made a sample letter to make it easy - Copy the letters below (inserting your name and other appropriate changes) and mail them right away to your representatives (link to congressional addresses are below)!!!
1. Support & Thank You Letters: Click here to open the sample support Word document to send to your Representative and Senator (if you don't have Word, or have an older version, scroll down for the text of each letter).

The Service Flag is an official flag regulated by the Department of Defense. It is displayed by the family members of U. S. Military personnel during any period of war or hostilities the United States may be engaged in.
