Richmond, VA (1140wrva.com) – The Republican Party of Virginia could have a change in leadership by the end of the day. The Party's Central Committee is meeting to vote on the future of Del. Jeff Frederick. A 75% supermajority is needed to oust Frederick, who has held the post for less than a year.Officially, Frederick is facing a vote because of concerns how he has run the party. There are allegations he has used his own company for party business. Unofficially, James Madison University Political Scientist Robert Roberts says Frederick is facing opposition from moderates who believe he is taking the GOP too far right.
Roberts says if Frederick is forced out, conservatives could chose to sit out the November election, which would hurt Republican Candidate For Governor Bob McDonnell. If he stays, Roberts thinks the party could have trouble raising money for House of Delegates races.

The RPV would do well to remember and consider the grass-roots support Jeff Frederick carried last year. They would also do well to remember that it is the grass-roots that are the heart and soul of the conservative movement.

If the members of RPV do not like the direction Jeff Frederick is taking the Republican party in Viriginia, may I offer you the door and a bus ticket to the dhimmicrat side.

I write today to discuss a legislative initiative in the current session of the General Assembly that we introduced at a January 8th news conference at the Virginia Capitol.

Senator Ken Cuccinelli (R-Fairfax) and Senator Chap Petersen (D-Fairfax) have introduced SB 585, and Delegate Ben Cline (R-Rockbridge) and Delegate Johnny Joannou (D-Portsmouth) haveintroduced HB 1360 that will put the state budget online in a user-friendly, searchable format. The basic idea behind budget transparency is that the state government becomes much more accountable when the individual citizen, with average computer skills, can search the state budget to learn how our tax dollars are being spent down to the individual program, vendor, and contract levels.

At our January 8th news conference, prepared statements were submitted by both Lt. Governor Bill Bolling and Attorney General Bob McDonnell in support of this effort. Since the news conference, editorial board meetings with The Washington Examiner, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, The Free Lance-Star Fredericksburg), and the Richmond Times-Dispatch have been held to discuss the need for budget transparency. The News & Advance (Lynchburg) has also written about the proposed legislation and what it would mean for Virginia. This is an issue the media actually supports because a searchable database in a user-friendly, detailed format would make their jobs considerably easier. In the coming days I will send you articles that have appeared as a result of our meetings.

Starting tomorrow, January 28th, I will begin sending out daily e-mail updates on what committees these bills are in, who is on those committees, and their contact information. We would greatly appreciate your support individually, or corporately if you have your own group or association, to contact the relevant Delegates and Senators to voice your support for these bills and to ensure they are on board.

Anyone who calls himself a fiscal conservative or a taxpayer activist should be
ecstatic at the prospect of this legislation becoming law. Today even legislators will admit the budget of Virginia is indecipherable and that that is not by accident.

In many ways, budget transparency is the perfect issue because either our legislators support it, or they have to explain why they oppose transparency and accountability.

Gilmore and Marshall - Virginia Should Be Proud

The horrible death of Hugh Finn in 1998 affected me deeply. Many people sought to save him. Two of them were Governor Jim Gilmore and Delegate Bob Marshall.

Hugh Finn's death by starvation and dehydration (a death to which we would never dream of subjecting the lowliest of God's creatures) was ordained by his doctors, his spouse, even his church, through Bishops Walter Sullivan and Thomas Kelly. Lawyers and the courts, ultimately condemned him.

Delegate Marshall and Governor Gilmore fought valiantly but unsuccessfully on Hugh Finn's behalf. It was a hard moment politically but a stunningly beautiful moment of grace for these men.

I will never forget it.

Now both are running for the same Senate seat. So what do we do?

We should thank the good Lord for blessing the Commonwealth with leaders such as these, review their records of public service and listen to them carefully in the days ahead.

It seems odd to take pleasure in such a hard choice, but I do. Virginia should be proud.

Some truths about Virginia

Virginia Republicans must become the party of small government and low taxes again. If not, we will continue to lose, and more to the point, we will deserve to lose.

The big news out of the 4th Congressional District Republican meeting Monday evening, July 30th was the announcement by Prince George's Dr. Joe Leming that he will run for the office of Lt. Governor in '09.

Other news of note from the meeting:
Wayne Ozmore, 4th District Chair, stepped down and Jason Gray, one of Rep. Randy Forbes staffers, stepped up.

The new Republican Party of Virginia chairman, John Hager, spoke to the gathering as did former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore who was stumping for former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

State Sen. Quayle and Del. Cosgrove spoke also.

And even though what happens at the Virginia Diner should stay at the Virginia Diner, I will just add that a good time was had by all. Nice and polite. Really.

Patricia Phillips To Run For State Senate In The 33rd

In January 2006, there was a Special Election to replace Bill Mims in the state senate. The Republican candidate in the 33rd Senate District was Mick Staton who received approximately 38% of the vote. The Democrat candidate was Mark Herring who won the election with approximately 62% of the vote. Turnout was only approximately 14% of the registered voters. Herring was elected by 8% of the voters.
