We Surround Them - Richmond Meeting 10/23/09

Americans have a long history of political involvement. Our country was founded upon it. Sadly that custom among the average citizen has fallen into disuse.

We Surround Them - Richmond is reviving that custom.

Over seventy people gathered together on October 23rd to listen to candidates and confront them. Endorsing neither candidate or party, WST invited politicians that seemed to either follow or, at leastsupport, the values of the 9/12 Project of smaller government, greater freedom, and a return to the principles expressed in the Constitution.

Following a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance and an invocation, the floor was opened to the attending candidates.

Mr. Ken Cuccinelli, Republican candidate for Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Virginia, spoke first. In summary of the first part of his statement, Mr. Cuccinelli illustrated the how he and his opponent, Mr. Shannon differ. And he recalled the recent comments at a debate in which his Democratic opponent linked Mr. Cuccinelli's support of the 10 Amendment to horrendous acts, such as sterilization, segregation, etc, that were previously tolerated in Virginia. Ken then went on to say that, apparently Mr. Shannon had forgotten that all of these acts took place under DEMOCRATIC governments. Mr. Shannon tried to link Mr. Cuccinelli to support of slavery and racism because of his support of Constitutional principles. "Now remember, this is a man that has had dinner in MY house......that won't be happening again.", quipped Mr. Cuccinelli.

His goal is to protect the Commonwealth of Virginia as written in the Constitution: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people, and is willing to sue the Federal government when necessary.

One of his key principles is his support of property rights, and reminded us of the amendment that further supported private property rights that he wanted to add to the Virginia Constitution; one which Creigh Deeds voted against.

He is proud of his record of supporting basic principles, even ones deemed controversial. Controversial, of course, to those that seek to restrict rights. He will fight the federal gevernment when they over-reach. He is a loud and proud supporter of the 2nd Amendment. He will support the Marriage Amendment and likes to contrast his 0% AFL-CIO voting record with his opponents 100% AFL-CIO voting record.

Complimenting Mr. McDonnell's campaign as a jobs governor, Mr. Cuccinelli's background in the energy development field will help the Commonwealth be the leader in the development the energy industry on the East coast. He believes that ALL domestic energy sources should be developed.

Finally, Mr. Cuccinelli said something that endeared him to many at the meeting: "I am willing to fight with my own party over basic principles. I feel no obligation to stick with someone that is wrong." To paraphrase: Republicans are only valuable as a party only as they are willing to defend the principles that they espouse.

Next to present his candidacy was Ernest Sampson of the 69th District, the 2nd most Democratic district in the state.

Mr. Sampson touts his non-traditional campaign and his hard work for his success. His campaign has knocked on over 16,000 doors, 70% of them personally. He says that his future constituents are surprised when he presents himself. He is an African-American Republican. Or as he most emphatically puts it: He is an AMERICAN and a Republican that happens to be black.

He majored in economics at VMI and earned an MBA at VCU. His goal is to improve the educational situation and bring more jobs to his district. As a businessman, a financial adviser, he say that he knows what is need to help the 69th. He supports tax credits for starting businesses or hiring employees. He wants to improve public safety and the public schools, thereby making his district a good place for business.

When asked if the citizenry can trust him to keep to his espoused principles when in office, he looked at his VMI ring and stated that he had learned a valuable lesson at VMI: Honor Above Self. "If I don't uphold my principles to your standards, kick me out of office."

The next candidate to speak was "Mannoli" Loupassi of the 68th District.
"If government does everything of the citizen, we create invalids. The more the government does, the less WE are." Mr. Loupassi spoke of the United States as we all, well most of us, see it: as a land of opportunity and hard work. It is that work ethic that he sees Americans losing. Everyone seems to want everything provided to them by the government. Since that is impossible, in addition to being wrong, he wants to restrict spending to the rate of population growth + inflation by amending the State Constitution. "We must PRIORITIZE and cut programs."

From the 74th District, came Michael Gage, a small business owner. His opponent is Fightin' Joe Morrisey. As an active member in his community, he sees how overreaching government at all levels can restrict freedoms and business. While supporting commonsense rules and safety regulations, he feels that business is over-regulated and that local and state governments make laws without regard to the local citizenry. He sees how the Democratic politicians will say one thing and do another. What you see is NOT what you get when you see his opponent. Mr. Gage feels that it is the job of the government, at whatever level, to protect the citizen as they go about the business of being who they aspire to be.

Dr. John O'Bannon III of the 73rd District brought back the fact that even local campaigns have a national effect. Virginia is being watched and this is the opportunity to send a message to the country that "we don't want Card Check, Cap & Trade, or Socialized Health Care. Virginia is ground zero." When asked, "What is the role of government?" His answer was "Whose money IS IT?" While public safety, education, roads, etc., should be the role of government, we can't solve everyone's problems.

In answer to a question on the health care debate, he answered that we have to get people engaged in their own health care needs. We need to get the insurance companies working for the consumer. More competition will help people and hospitals understand costs. Right now, no one knows what a medical procedure actually costs, including hospitals.

Lastly, a spokesman for Mr. Sam Nixon of the 27th District spoke, as Mr. Nixon was forced to cancel his appearance due to a family emergency.
Thought Mr. Nixon is running unopposed, he is still campaigning so that his constituents know that he does not take their vote for granted. He supports more energy development in the Commonwealth. He wants more responsible budgeting and more prioritizing, not more taxes. Related to that, he supports identifying lobbyists and what they are supporting/paying for in greater detail by tying individual bills to the lobbyist involved.

The evening was a great success, especially as a first event. I fully support their efforts. All citizens, Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, or any other "flavor", should join the WST-Richmond organization. They are a non-partisan group dedicated to holding OUR representatives accountable for their actions and the ideas they support.

Thoughts on Liberty 101

That my blog partner couldn't find the time to attend.

....amidst the disparagement of grassroots efforts to push back on healthcare reform as currently envisioned in Congress, the former-community-organizer himself, President Obama, has tried to gin up grassroots workers who will pressure lawmakers into passing a massive healthcare overhaul. Contrast the “labor of love” work of my local compatriots to recent Craigslist advertisements to pay $15 per hour to “volunteers” to work to pass Obama's Healthcare Plan. Quite a difference in commitment, wouldn’t you agree? Real grassroots is “money-poor and people-rich” according to Wikipedia.
Hmmmm.....

I’ve been calling and writing to my representatives for nearly ten years. Yeah, a real time-waster, I know. Until this year, I had never marched in the vicinity of a legislator’s office, but I’ve now done so three times. I still haven’t carried a handmade sign! But I really do admire the creativity of my grassroots colleagues. Individuals around this great land have spoken up to our government leaders and found themselves thrust into the spotlight. So many of them have faced cameras and questions from all types of media and held their own in the debate. I have been enormously impressed by their courage and their passion. I don’t care much about the limelight, but I am going to keep working on the grassroots projects I’ve committed to.

No one has to pay me; it’s a labor of love.

A Message from Our Friends at FreedomWorks

Armey’s Axiom says that a little man can whip a big man every time if he’s in the right and keeps on a-comin’. That’s why I believe that grassroots Americans still can defeat the biggest threats to our freedoms now moving through Washington, D.C. But now is no time to be subtle, or to be timid.

Late last week, the U.S. House left the confines of the Beltway for its month-long August Recess. Next week the Senate will follow suit. Congress is closing up shop for the summer. Think of this as “half-time” in this year’s fight against the Obama agenda and the good news for freedom-loving limited government advocates is that the momentum is on our side.

Right now liberals are literally scrambling. Moderate Democrats in the Senate as well as members of the House Blue Dog Caucus have been brought to the White House on an almost daily basis to take their licks for not rubber stamping the Obama wish-list. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid seem out of touch with the Democrat rank-and-file as they present their aggressive timelines for passing controversial reforms only to be stymied by members of their own caucus time and time again. Unable to muster the necessary votes on health care, both the House and Senate have delayed floor votes until after their August vacation. To top it all off, Obama’s approval rating has just slipped to below 50% for the first time.

That’s a long way from our New Year’s hangover that saw a newly strengthened and emboldened liberal Congress and radical left-wing president crowing about their ambitious plans to grow government. True, Obama did pass the disastrous stimulus bill, driving deficits to record highs. But the fact remains: Obama’s machine has been shocked by effective opposition from conservative activists.

Beginning with the Tea Party demonstrations in the spring and translating into massive grassroots outcries in the “cap and tax” and government takeover of health care policy battles, hard working volunteers like you took to the streets. As a result, these two key goals of Obama’s socialist dream are now heavily bogged down despite early claims that both would be passed before August. Card check, the union power grab that liberals expected to pass by now, and another crown jewel in the Obama agenda, isn’t even on the schedule any more.

For the liberal left, August will be a time for regrouping and strategizing on how best to jump-start their big government agenda. To counter their efforts, FreedomWorks will be activating grassroots networks all over the country and mobilizing activists to attend literally hundreds of legislator town hall meetings and listening sessions. In addition, our volunteers will be setting up district office visits, staging protests, and hosting letter-writing parties to reinforce pressure against their socialist schemes.

At the top of the to-do list for Pelosi, Reid, and company when they return in September: the government-run health care and cap and trade legislation they originally thought they could do before summer’s end. That makes the stakes for FreedomWorks’ 9-12 Taxpayer March on Washington that much higher. To date, thousands have registered and to my knowledge, there has never before been a conservative, limited government gathering of this magnitude in Washington, D.C.

Here is the breakdown of events:
Thursday, September 10, will be a day of grassroots training, issue education, and lobbying on key issues like health care and cap and trade.

Friday, September 11, will continue training and lobbying in the afternoon, and we will host a reception for our best activists that night.

Blogger Note: I must insist that anyone not going to the reception, please make the trip up to Walter Reed Army Medical Center at 7200 Georgia Ave NW and join the members of DCProtestWarrior, DCFreeRepublic, Gathering of Eagles, Band of Mothers, and other patriotic Americans as we continue the weekly Friday night tribute to our brave wounded soldiers and Marines reovering at WRAMC. I promise you will not be bored. Festivities begin at 1800 and end around 2200. That's 6PM to 10PM for you non-Marines.

Saturday, September 12, is the big march down Pennsylvania Avenue culminating with the rally on the West Lawn of the Capitol.

I would love to be there to see the look in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s eyes when she steps out onto the balcony of her office on the West Side of the Capitol. As the saying goes: “Priceless.”

I hope I can count on you to be here in Washington, D.C., for the 9-12 Taxpayer March, but today I also ask you to commit to recruit others to take part in this historic event. If you could bring five or even ten additional people from your community who also understand how important it is to stop Obama and the left’s socialist agenda, it will help us reach our goal of flooding the Capitol lawn with freedom-loving activists from all over the country.

We are making great gains in our efforts to beat back the left, but now it’s make or break time.

Thank you again for everything you’ve done. Keep up the pressure on members of Congress over the August Recess against government-run health care and the cap and trade energy tax, and I look forward to seeing you here in Washington, D.C. in September when these battles heat up once again.

Get Out Of Our House

Last Saturday night approximately 100 people packed the meeting room at BassProShops in Ashland to hear Tim Cox explain the concept of GOOOH.

I was in attendance and I must say the man has a plan. It's going to require cooperation from all corners of the conservative movement, but if we can make it work, I think this country can be saved from the headlong rush into socialism we seem to be trapped in.

And trapped is what we will be if we don't do something, and do it soon. We need good solid conservatives who would be willing to perform the duties of a Representative the way it was intended: a citizen legislature, like Virginia, which meets twice a year to take care of the country's business, and then goes home to their regular job.

I can think of a half a dozen Virginia delegates who would be perfect candidates.

We are being spoon-fed this crap and told we need it.
They're pissing in our ear and telling us it's raining.

From Cap and Tax to healthcare to goverment takeover of industry where a sitting CEO of a private corporation can be fired by the President of the United States for no apparent reason to Congress exceeding the powers granted by the Constitution; we are being screwed big time and K-Y is optional.

Stalin and Lenin are doing a jig in Hell watching us being led down the road they paved.

Rep. Peter Welch (VT) 202-225-4115
Rep. Jay Inslee (WA) 202-225-6311

>>> Talking Points

1. I am disappointed that Rep. Waxman is rushing the 1,000-page cap-and-trade Carbon Tax through the Energy and Commerce Committee this week.

2. This bill deserves full deliberation and should not be rushed.

3. I oppose the cap-and-trade Carbon Tax. This is an outrageous power grab by the federal government that will greatly expand government control and increase my taxes.

4. Especially in these difficult economic times, Congress must not pass this tax on the American people!

I saw a news item that indicated oil companies were reducing exploration and recovery due to the Cap and Trade. No exploration, no new wells.

Power companies which are currently expending millions for clean-coal technology are going to be hit hard with this Carbon Tax, and electric rates are going to go up.

They DO Understand the Tea Party Movement

They=VLWM

They're not stupid. They are coniving, calculating, viscious, mean, vile and twisted and they are SCARED!!!

Thats why they belittled and ridiculed and made ugly viscious, barely disguised references to deviant sexual acts instead of reporting the story.

They (VLWM=Very Left Wing Media) and the useful idiots, like Fuzzigay, (see comment section) who believe every twisted word printed or spoken by the Fifth Column are scared out of their tiny twisted little minds at the thought of honest conservative-thinking Americans with traditional values standing up for the principals and ideals that have made this country the best place in the known universe to live.

They (VLWM) are getting a taste of what the coming months will be like. It's gonna be hot. We're going to shut them down and run them into their little rat holes.

Sgt Shultz "I Know Nutting"

Commentary from Joan Swirsky. Its a very long piece, and I've excerpted a few paragraphs here. Make the jump and read the whole thing.

The Philadelphia Bulletin

Mr. Know Nuthin’
In spite of the fact that the president of the United States is supposed to be the most informed person on the face of the earth, when the most dramatic opposition to his policies took place on Tax Day, April 15, his press secretary, Robert (Baghdad Bob) Gibbs, said that the president was “unaware” of the Tea Party tsunami.

In Internet lingo, this was a huge LOLOL! Of course President Obama knew. That is why the day before the Tea Parties, on April 14, he went into full campaign mode to tell students at Georgetown U. how peachy keen things were; why he sent his Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to echo the message to students at Morehouse U., and why the White House blast e-mailed and blast-faxed its left-wing media lackeys the Talking Points they hoped would kill the damned Tea Party movement in its infancy.

But the Obama and Bernanke speeches failed, as did all those media Talking Points. That is not to say that the so-called journalists of the so-called mainstream media — the same media that are dying on the vine every day — were silent. So terrified are they of Democracy in Action that they tripped over themselves, and each other, in a failed effort to diminish the impact of this national movement and to vilify its participants. Fox News, however, gave the Tea Parties 24-7 coverage and garnered the kind of sky-high ratings that every news organization dreams about.I understand why the president was clueless. After all, a United States president is a busy man.

He can’t possibly know of everything going on in our country, especially when he is hard at work:
• Bowing fawningly to the terrorist-funding King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia
• Sharing a strangely intimate finger-entangled greeting with the American-loathing Marxist president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez
• Sitting mutely through a 90-minute American-bashing screed by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega
• Sending love notes (uh, “outreach” messages) to the America-reviling president of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
• Sending his sell-out-Israel emissaries to the America-hating president of Syria, Bashar Assad
• Making sweet overtures to Cuba’s tyrant Raul CastroAnd generally apologizing to our enemies for what he believes is America’s “arrogance” and “divisiveness.”

But something unexpected happened to our neophyte president on the way to shoving his socialist swill down the throats of the American public. They rejected it. In a recent article, “Obama’s Incurable Nausea,” I described why leftists routinely throw up. It is because anything that suggests American exceptionalism, respect for our military, adherence to our Constitution, small government, low taxes and free-market capitalism makes them sick, and the only thing that relieves their chronic nausea is, well, vomiting on America.

But “unlike the Left, who own the protest movement” says writer and publisher Judi McLeod: “Tea Party patriots did not scream obscenities or insult the very men and women who make it possible for [protests] to happen every day in America — the courageous U.S. troops and their allies in Afghanistan and Iraq.” Instead, they “sported tea bags on their lapels [and] waved the Stars and Stripes … something that Barack Obama cannot or will not do for America: show pride in being part of what is the greatest nation on earth! Even as the Obama regime cripples the country’s economy; even though Obama bagman George Soros gloated at the human suffering in the current recession, calling it ‘the culmination of my lifetime,’ patriots were taking their country back!”

Writing that the DHS document — declaring protesters de facto domestic terrorists — “reads like a declaration of war against decent American citizens,” radio-host Dr. Laurie Roth, who spoke before 3,500 Tea Party attendees in Spokane, predicts that “the nation has started its wake-up call. We are all fed up to our gills and done being just angry while watching our government violate our Constitution, tax us to death, steal from future generations, and continue to march against our freedoms! This is just the beginning!”
And in a wonderful recounting of the original Boston Tea Party of 1773, writer Lee Cary — in a clear allusion to the Obama administration being “unaware” of the modern-day Tea Parties of April 15 — sardonically quips that the “Parliament didn’t get the last Tea Party either.”

“Deliberative legislative bodies,” Mr. Cary continues, “tend, then and now, to be dismissive when the people express an opinion they, the ruling class, don’t share. When asked to comment on the April 15, 2009 Tea Parties across America, Press Secretary Robert (Baghdad Bob) Gibbs, said, in essence,
‘The people just don’t appreciate all the things the Crown has done for them.’

”Referring to the current Tea Parties, Patriot Post proprietor, Mark Alexander said: “The Tea Party of 1773 was a tactical event, but … as more Patriots across the nation take a lesson from our Founders, and make the leap from tactical skirmishes to a unified strategic front, protests will become far more focused and effective.”

And after ToThePointNews.com’s Dr. Jack Wheeler and his wife watched Tea Party demonstrations around the country, he wrote: “We’re going to have our country back again. There is hope for America after all. We wanted to believe this, but our faith had been profoundly shaken by the act of mass insanity last Nov. 4. Now we could see with our own eyes — America is coming to its senses. The tea parties will continue. Wait till you see how many more of them and how bigger they are on July 4.”

But, Dr. Wheeler warns, “One thing you can count on, the patriotic rejection of [Obama’s] fascism is not going to fade, it is going to grow … in an endless stream, for the people providing them are compulsively fascist in a religiously fanatical way. Fascism is their religion.”

Tough words until you consider that Mr. Obama’s FBI was covertly doing surveillance at each Tea Party throughout the nation, according to Douglas J. Hagmann, director of www.canadafreepress.com, and its founding editor, Ms. McLeod. In a chilling commentary, the authors describe the following:“…a single-page confidential directive issued by the FBI headquarters in Washington, DC (FBIHQ) was sent to each of the 56 field offices located across the United States on or about March 23, 2009, instructing the Special Agents in Charge (SACs) of those offices to verify the date, time and location of each Tea Party within their region and supply that information to FBI headquarters in Washington. The source stated this correspondence termed the Tea parties ‘political demonstrations,’ and added that the dissemination of the directive was very tightly controlled.

“In addition to obtaining or confirming the location and time of each ‘demonstration,’ each field office was instructed to obtain or confirm the identity of the individual(s) involved in the actual planning and coordination of the event in each specific region, and include the local or regional Internet web site address, if any. The information collected by region was then reportedly sent to FBI Headquarters.“... [a] second directive was issued on or about April 6, 2009, that reportedly instructed each SAC to coordinate and conduct, either at the field office level and/or with the appropriate resident agency, covert video surveillance and data collection of the participants of the Tea Parties. Surveillance was to be performed from ‘discreet fixed or mobile positions’ and was to be performed ‘independently and outside of the purview of local law enforcement.’”

“Listen to what I am saying,” said Mr. Hagmann’s source. “The Department of Homeland Security Intelligence Assessment that is receiving so much attention is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, and the true patriotic citizens of this country are on the Titanic.”

Hey Hey Ho Ho Napolitano Has To Go

The Center for Individual Freedom

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano MUST BE FIRED!
And just so it's perfectly clear, we aren’t talking about her resigning (either gracefully or in disgrace). And it’s way too late for backhanded apologies, like the 'slap-in-the-face' she already gave the brave men and women who have wore a uniform and proudly served this country.
Janet Napolitano must be FIRED... and it should have been done yesterday! You see, the problem is not just that Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) put together a so-called anti-terrorism security assessment that targets mainstream Americans as dangerous extremists.
We're talking about millions of people who believe that our government is too large and taxes us too much, like those who participated in the TEA Parties on tax day. We are talking about everyday Americans who believe that the 2nd Amendment actually gives people the right to bear arms; people who are pro-life; the millions of people who believe that our nation’s immigration laws should be strictly enforced.
And the problem is not simply that this so-called security assessment targets patriotic Americans - and they are talking about YOU - as "right wing extremists," or, as Peter Kirsanow with the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights put it: “That DHS report warning about all manner of ‘right-wing extremists’ could be considerably shortened if it simply alerted law-enforcement officials to be on the lookout for people from ‘small towns (who are) bitter (and) cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment.’”
The problem is that this is the same Janet Napolitano who just recently told us that horrendous, unspeakable acts committed by actual terrorists, dead set on destroying our country and killing Americans, should be called “man-caused disasters."
Specifically she told Der Spiegel: “In my speech, although I did not use the word 'terrorism,' I referred to 'man-caused' disasters. That is perhaps only a nuance, but it demonstrates that we want to move away from the politics of fear toward a policy of being prepared for all risks that can occur.”
So... when it comes to actual acts or threats of terrorism against mainstream Americans, we should move beyond the "politics of fear."
But patriotic Americans like YOU – who exercise your Constitutionally-protected First Amendment rights – pose a threat to the government.
Is it actually possible that Napolitano and Barack Obama and even some within the Obama Administration are so twisted as to believe that Islamic Terrorists are the good guys and that you are the bad guys?
Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin in Thursday's Washington Times wrote: “What and who exactly are President Obama’s homeland security officials afraid of these days? If you are a member of an active conservative group that opposes abortion, favors strict immigration enforcement, lobbies to protect Second Amendment rights, protests big government, advocates federalism, or represents veterans who believe in any of the above, the answer is: You.”
If what is contained in this leaked DHS security assessment does not bring you to the realization that it is time for all patriotic Americans who love freedom to stand up and shout that we're not going to take it anymore... it is quite possible that nothing will.

The DHS Report Targets All Of You Bitter People Out There Who Cling To Guns And Religion. Malkin is not alone. Syndicated radio talk-show host Michael Reagan went so far as to ask the following: “Have we really come to this? Has Adolf Hitler's propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels been reborn and recruited by the Obama administration to scare the heck out of the American people with absurdities such as this whacked-out document?"
Lance Fairchok writing for AmericanThinker.com hits the nail squarely on the head. Calling this so-called security assessment "a shot across the bow" he plainly states that DHS is NOT simply referring to individuals living on society's fringe.
The assessment is, in fact, referring to YOU and patriotic Americans like you.
Moreover, Fairchok believes this assessment was hastily and sloppily written in order to fit a sick and disgusting preconceived notion: "This 'assessment' is not an analysis of a national trend or an examination of existing evidence or even recent radical literature; it is targeting those whose politics fall within the broad insinuations contained within its pages, namely mainstream conservatives."
Judge Andrew Napolitano with FOX News essentially says the same thing: "The summary contains few proper names, has no footnotes of any significance, lists very few sources, and is drafted with a prejudice against anyone who criticizes the role of the federal government in our lives today. It lumps together in its definition of 'rightwing extremism' hate groups, anti-government groups, and single issue groups 'such as opposition to abortion or immigration.'” Let's state it more plainly. As far as Janet Napolitano's DHS is concerned, if you are pro-life or believe in strict enforcement of our immigration laws, or if you attended one of those TEA parties, you're the same as a neo-Nazi, or a member of the KKK. You are dangerous and pose no less a threat than the real terrorists trying to destroy our great country. Is it possible that when Barack Obama spoke of bitter people from small towns who cling to God and their guns that he was not just simply being derisive?
Is it possible that pointing out that Barack Obama sat in a Church for years listening to a lunatic pontificate, "Not God Bless America... God D___ America" WAS relevant after all? .
