The Super Intelligent (Mostly) Tolerant Left Makes A Statement

You’ve already seen how leftist protesters responded during the National Anthem at Saturday’s Tea Party rally in Madison, WI. Now you can see how they responded during a 14-year-old girl’s speech during that same event. Not only did they continue yelling and making noise, but this guy screamed “Fu**ing brat!” and told her to go home while making some nice hand gestures:


Now watch the young lady's speech in its entirety. You just know the union goons and leftist idiots were apoplectic while this young lady showed then what real class is.

AFPVA Lends A Hand With the Budget

A message from Americans for Prosperity:

Yesterday in Richmond, we rolled out our "Commonsense Model Budget" for VA. It was a packed house in the press briefing room at the General Assembly building and as you can imagine, there were lots of questions regarding where cuts should be made, how deep, and whether or not tax and certain fee increases would be appropriate to close the more than $4 billion shortfall we are currently facing. The reactions have been swift:

The Washington Post quoted Gov. Bob McDonnell's office as saying "The input from AFP will be very helpful in this process and we thank them for their innovative ideas."

The Lynchburg News & Advance quoted the report, pointing out that "even as the manufacturing, trade and services sectors of Virginia employment lost employees in the recession, government employment grew by 10,900."

WDBJ-TV in Roanoke quoted Delegate Ben Cline saying, "They (AFP) have put eyes on the budget and invested time, money and effort in reviewing our budget from top to bottom, and making specific recomendations."

The report details, by agency and department, where savings can be found by simply using controls that should have been used a long time ago. In all, we recommend more than $5 billion in cuts (including the $2 billion Gov. Kaine propsed.)

We made 5,000 copies of the 139 page report and will be distributing them to citizen activists around the commonwealth as we travel across Virginia holding dozens of town hall meetings in the next couple weeks.

I have to say, that in the more than two years as AFP's state director here in VA, nothing we've done to this point has been more important. It is time to turn the "cut spending" rhetoric into action.

Rolling Stone Explains It All or The Big Insurance Magic Brain Beam Machine

All this time I thought I was acting on my own when I wrote letters, made phone calls, and marched in the street with over two million other Americans, protesting excessive government intrusion into my life.

I didn't realize I was being manipulated by Big Insurance and the Magic Brain Beam Machine. Who knew??

Rarely has anybody on the Left ever dared to speak so candidly in giving their explanation for the Middle American Rebellion of 2009 that turned out thousands of previously non-political Americans of all ages at town halls, tea parties and, most impressively, on Sept. 12 in the nation's capital.

Since folks on the Left can't possibly accept that rational people would oppose more government control over their lives, they are left with only one possible explanation - Opponents must be too stupid, blind or malleable to think for themselves, so they must be nothing more than pawns.

And who is doing the manipulating? Remember Hillary Clinton and the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy (VRWC)? Dickinson echoes and updates the familiar theme with this pack of assertions:

"Call it the return of the Karl Rove playbook: The effort to mobilize the angriest fringe of the Republican base was guided by a conservative dream team that included the same GOP henchmen who Swift-boated John Kerry in 2004, smeared John McCain in 2000, wrote the script for Republican obstructionism on global warming, and harpooned the health care reform effort led by Hillary Clinton in 1993."

And among the other suspects - Dick Scaife, Frank Luntz, Dick Armey - Dickinson pays particular attention to Charles and David Koch, and their foundation, saying "Americans for Prosperity, which has taken the lead in the current fight against reform, is a front group for oil billionaires David and Charles Koch, co-owners of the world's largest private oil and gas conglomerate."

AFP Update on Cap and Trade

Last week we had an unbelievably tight, down-to-the-wire fight in the U.S. House of Representatives over the massive Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade energy tax bill, the largest tax hike in American history and an unprecedented intrusion of the federal government into our economy and our lives.

Thank you so much for everything you did to give the side of economic sanity a fighting chance. Your calls and emails made a huge difference, and AFP members like you were clearly one of the driving forces last week.

We weren’t quiet able to win in the House (see how they voted here), but we’re confident that if we can keep educating and mobilizing regular common-sense Americans, we can beat this disastrous bill in the Senate.
Here are few reasons to be hopeful:

* Just two states, California (32) and New York (25) provided more than a quarter of the 219 total yes votes

* Democrats in several key targeted Senate states voted majority no, including Indiana (3 of 5), Arkansas (2 of 3), and West Virginia (2 of 2)

* Earl Pomeroy of North Dakota, Stephanie Herseth Sandlin of South Dakota, both statewide elected Democrats, vote no

Unfortunately, we also learned that the White House is willing to do anything to get this bill passed, including misleading and intimidating members. That means the Senate fight will be right down to the wire, and pressure from back home will be the only way to stop this from passing.

We also know the stakes, in the President’s own words:"Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket."There is no time to waste, so I’m asking you to please click here to send a strong message to your Senators to oppose this outrageous cap-and-trade bill.

UCV Meeting Recap

I made it to my first UCV meeting last night. I wasn't sure quite what to expect, but there seemed to be a good turnout. Rob Whitney from Americans for Prosperity was there discussing what AFP is all about. They are definitely a good group. In the short time they have been in existence in Virginia they have educated quite a few people and made a lot of noise. In fact, they are already being criticized by the liberal media, so you know they are doing things right.

One of the big things happening right now with AFP is their No Tax Hike Petition. If you have not already done so, fill it out, and encourage others to do the same. Taxes aren't the only issue AFP is concerned with. They are also concerned with personal property rights, education, transportation, and medicaid. All issues that need attention and reform.

In addition to their own AFP blog, Rob Whitney and Whitney Duff also contribute to the Cost Cutting Caucus blog. The Cost Cutting Caucus is an excellent group chaired by Del. Chris Saxman. From the blog - the Cost Cutting Caucus is a non-partisan, bicameral group that works to find cost savings in state government, and make government more efficient, transparent, accountable and competitive.

Americans For Prosperity: Someone called in the Cavalry

Nickfinity over at Say No to RINOs has posted a great summary of the Americans For Prosperity Virginia Grassroots meeting held on January 7. Speakers included AFP's Rob Whitney, Delegate Chris Saxman, Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling (that guy is showing up in all the Right places!), The Honorable Paul Harris, Dr. Jim Miller, Speaker of the House William Howell, Steve Horton and Phil Cox.

After reading his detailed report there seems to be hope this group may be THE great anti-tax coagulator Virginia needs and platelet donations will most likely be in order before all is said and done.

Here is a bit of what nickfinity had to report:

Delegate Saxman is a member of the Cost Cutting Caucus and is a big proponent of school choice. I believe he has a bill this year that would give tax credits to corporations who offer scholarships to private schools. I hope it passes.

Delegate Saxman also supports a more transparent budget. I have only glanced at this year's budget, but it appears to be an improvement over previous years. I hope it is something he continues to work on.

As an aside, during the tax hike debate I talked to Senator Stosch and asked him where I could look at the budget. He said it was available online and made it sound like any schmuck could look at it and figure everything out. I did look, but it was difficult to navigate and understand. The following year on a survey he asked if the budget document should be easier to view and understand.

Following Delegate Saxman was Rob Whitney. Rob discussed the victory AFP had in Kansas. At the same time Virginia was passing a $1.4 billion tax increase Kansas was defeating a $1 billion increase. Part of a problem in Virginia is that the anti-tax crowd is not as organized as it should be. AFP will hopefully be the answer.
