The movie Redacted was a grotesque monstrosity that was specifically designed to show the American soldier as an evil Crusader pillaging, raping, burning and murdering his way through the Muslim world. For that Brian De Palma and Mark Cuban, who helped fund it, deserve to burn in Hell. Now they have the blood of the US troops killed in Frankfurt splashed on themselves head to toe.

According to the German wire service dapd, the German Attorney General’s Office has confirmed that the video clip viewed by the Frankfurt Airport shooter Arid Uka — and that allegedly provoked him to kill American soldiers — was indeed the rape scene from Brian De Palma’s fictional anti-Iraq War movie Redacted. Attorney General spokesperson Frank Wallenta confirmed the identity of the clip to the German television news magazine Spiegel TV.

I don't believe there is any reason or justification for censoring almost anything that people want to publish. But you do bear the consequences of your actions, and those two bastards had a hand in this. They made this film specifically to inflame anyone who saw it with the belief that Americans are evil and inhuman. I don't believe they specifically wanted some Muslim scumbag to kill Americans, but it was an easily foreseeable outcome and like I said, they bear that responsibility and I wish I believed they would feel as badly as they should about that.

Operation Fight Post Holiday Blues

I don't think there's ever a bad time to run a photo of Gina Elise of Pin-Ups for Vets. Classy, classic, and fun are words that spring to mind. Dedicated to doing for the troops and veterans is a phrase that comes to mind (okay, not the first phrase) as well. I met her at the last Milblog Conference and her calendar, with the lipstick kisses, is now in my home office.

Today, we're glad to join with Gina and announce Operation FPH Blues

The post-holiday blues can be bad enough on those who are healthy, and fully engaged in their normal activities. Stop for a moment and consider what it might be like for a member of the U.S. or Allied forces who find themselves evacuated to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. The time between Thanksgiving and New Year's has been like a fire-hose of attention, visits, and more. Then, suddenly, it's gone. They are alone in a hospital, in a foreign country, and away from friends, family, and normal support networks. Despite the dedicated efforts of staff and volunteers, the blues can hit hard.

Recognizing that, Gina Elise of the non-profit Pin-Ups for Vets and Cooking with the Troops have partnered to create Operation Fight Post Holiday Blues. This special event, timed for mid-January to have maximum effect, will combine a special dinner for a planned 150 people cooked by Guest Chef Ellen Adams, with hospital and other visits by Gina to help drive the blues away.

To aid this effort, the team is being joined by author Michael Z. Williamson, who will also do visits, autographs, and give away books. And, yes, Baen Books is donating books for Operation FPH Blues.

For the politician, it has the virtue of expediency: People are used to sales taxes, and this one produces a river of revenue.

Every 1 percent of VAT would yield up to $1 trillion a decade (depending on what you exclude -- if you exempt food, for example, the yield would be more like $900 billion). It's the ultimate cash cow.

Obama will need it. By introducing universal health care, he has pulled off the largest expansion of the welfare state in four decades. And the most expensive.

Which is why all of the European Union has the VAT. Huge VATs. Germany: 19 percent. France and Italy: 20 percent. Most of Scandinavia: 25 percent. American liberals have long complained that ours is the only advanced industrial country without universal health care. Well, now we shall have it. And as we approach European levels of entitlements, we will need European levels of taxation."

The war on terror is in Iraq. And we have allies throughout the world.

Long before Jeffrey Jamaleldine was hit in the face by a bullet during a nighttime ambush just outside the central Iraqi city of Ramadi, he was just another German kid, roaming through West Berlin and dreaming of becoming a professional soccer player.

Jamaleldine doesn't even crack a smile when he talks about how, in 1991, he joined in anti-American protests on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm boulevard during Operation Desert Storm. "That was the way it was back then," he says. He was 15 and "America was simply the enemy." It took a full 14 years before Jamaleldine finally -- and radically -- changed his views on the Americans. It was on June 6, 2005, in the middle of the Iraq war, when he showed up at the US Army recruiting office in Little Rock, Arkansas, to enlist.

This only upsets Jeff. Normally he tends to be quiet and calm. If there was nobody to fight terrorism?"
