Why Are Student Loans In the Health Bill?

Why are changes to student loans part of the health care package?

The reconciliation bill passed by the House includes sweeping changes not just to health care but to the federal student loans program.

Tucked inside the package (HR 4872 ) to amend the Senate’s health care bill (HR 3590 ) is a provision that ends federal subsidies for private banks that give out student loans.

For years, the government has paid those banks when students default on these loans. Now, the idea first proposed under President Clinton would make the government the sole direct lender of federal student loans.

There are two reasons why this is in the health care bill.

First, the tactic avoids a separate vote on the issue. The Senate may have pushed back on the idea, which the banking industry and many conservatives have opposed because they say it will eliminate jobs and result in a government takeover of the loans program.

Second, the $61 billion saved over the next decade by nixing the bank subsidies helps the health care bill meet cost-saving requirements. About two-thirds of the savings will be applied to more grants for low-income students, while $10 billion will go to reducing the federal deficit.

HR 1388 The Obama Youth Brigade

Obama Youth Brigade: Church Attendance Forbidden
By Jonas Clark

SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.
Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is amended to read as follows:

SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS.
(a) Prohibited Activities-A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities:

(1) Attempting to influence legislation. (No calling your congressman to tell him/her to vote yes or no)

(2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes. (No grassroots organizing, no parades, no protests, no Grassfire.)

(7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization.
(So if you're Muslim, you can forget about praying 5 times a day)

Is this the change you really voted for? President Obama has only been in office for two mos. Now we have HR 1388. The Bill was sponsored by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) with 37 others. The Bill was introduced to the floor of the House of Representatives where both Republicans and Democrats voted 321-105 in favor.

Next it goes to the Senate for a vote and then on to President Obama.

This bill's title is called Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE). It forms what some are calling Obama's Youth Brigade. Obama's plan is to require anyone receiving school loans and others to serve at least three months as part of the brigade. His goal is one million youth! This has serious Nazi Germany overtones to it.

So when you accept government funds for your education, you surrender every right gauranteed under the Bill of Rights.

Yeah, I'm down with that.

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
