TEA PARTY DAY

Today should be a national holiday! Overreaching politicians should use this day to re-examine their lives and policies.

Today is the anniversary of the original Tea Party. Today is the day that we celebrate principle over convenience.

Parliament reduced the duty the colonies would have to pay for the imported tea. The Americans would now get their tea at a cheaper price than ever before. However, if the colonies paid the duty tax on the imported tea they would be acknowledging Parliament's right to tax them. Apparently the government did not expect that the protestors would choose to destroy the tea rather than concede the authority of a legislature in which they were not directly represented.

While it is true that the American citizenry does have supposed representatives, the question is, "Are they representing us or or they ignoring the will of the people?" The only way to stop the government parasite from growing ever larger is to starve the beast.

Unfortunately, no representative in Congress nor any President is willing to make those hard decisions to reduce the size ofLeviathan.
