Who's Controlling Spending Now?

Mary Catherine Ham as a good point in her latest column:

Be prepared for Democrat “taxation without representation” all over again.
“So, the Dems are in power and suddenly the dastardly deficit, created solely by Bush's irresponsible tax cuts for the rich, doesn't matter anymore. Why? Because now Dems get to do the deficit spending! Of course, the real problem was always overspending, but since everyone made such a big deal about the deficit for six years, it's only fair to point out that Bush has cut it in half three years ahead of time without rolling back tax cuts[.]”

After campaigning for so many months about the “massive deficit” and faulting Republicans for massive increases in government spending, will we now see the Democrats restore limited government spending and less pork-barrel spending? Nope.

They will increase taxes “on the wealthy” – which for practical purposes is every living working person – increase pork-barrel spending and begin rebuilding the welfare state, and watch the deficit rise even farther with barely a word said. Mark my words.
