VCAP's Conservative Convention

The high-powered team at VCAP (Virginia Conservative Action PAC) presented a fabulous Conservative Convention this Saturday, Nov. 11th at the Richmond Convention Center. There were numerous workshops presented by nationally and statewide known pundits, scholars, experts and activists.

Human Events conducted a Presidential Straw Poll. Newt Gingrich won. (He's a good conservative so I think I'll save my snarky remark about "curb appeal" for a later date.)

The evening program was the highlight of the day. VCAP's Robin DeJarnette fired up the troops. Attorney General Bob McDonnell (is he future presidential material or what?) and former Governor Jim Gilmore held everyone's attention and gave excellent speeches.

And then there was Rhonda Winfield. "Delegates" at the convention had spent an entire day rubbing elbows with intellectuals, movers and shakers and politicos. But it was Rhonda who brought it all into focus, who reminded us why we were there, why we must keep up the good fight and why we must not abandon the young men and women who have fought so nobly and selflessly for us.

The entire day was an excellent opportunity to learn and network but without Rhonda Winfeild it would have been just a good convention. With her words and dignity of spirit she made it a real "Come to Jesus" moment for conservatives and patriots.

Like Rhonda, I do not believe our country was indelibly altered on Nov. 7th and like so many of us present on Saturday, will continue to work on behalf of our Troops, our people and Iraqis beginning to realize the freedoms that we so take for granted.

It's not just about Virginia anymore. The election proved that.
