Happy Fathers Day!

Mr. McDonald is spending his 29th Father's Day at a reunion with his Air Force buddies in Ohio. He told me over the phone that a few of them brought their wives but after viewing the old home movies of their days in the Phillipines some of the guys wished they hadn't.

We have many family photos but some of the best times are not found in the albums.

One of those special ones that is captured in my memory was when our daughter was just learning to walk. She had some sort of internal alarm clock and would make her way every day without fail to the front door a few minutes before her Dad was due home. If the door was closed she would turn around and give me a holler to open it.

And there she would stand until he drove up when she would shout with gusto and joy "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!" bouncing up and down and falling over in her enthusiasm. He would catch her up and hug her close. Sometimes she would push his chin with her little hand to turn his head so she could give him butterfly kisses on his cheek.

Over the years I've marvelled that she knew exactly when he would be coming through that door but it took awhile for me to truly and gratefully appreciate that no matter what, he always did.

Happy Father's Day to Mr. McDonald and all of our Dads!
