Memorial Day opportunity

I realize that many families have already made plans but I felt this was worth sharing. The Carillon was built just after WWII and is a beautiful setting, in Richmond, just north of the James River. Follow the Blvd south (crossing over I95) and thru the parks. It is always a lovely simple ceremony. I always love hearing the carillon concerts, knowing that there are barely a dozen (if that) true carillon towers in the country and less than two dozen people trained to play.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities and the Carillon Advisory Committee will present a free Memorial Day program at the Virginia War Memorial Carillon in Byrd Park May 29 at 4 p.m.
The ceremony features a rifle salute and a speaker from Ft. Lee, as well as a performance on the carillon bells by Lawrence Robinson, the city's carillonneur.

Citizens who wish to honor a loved one can purchase a carnation for $2 that will be included in a flower arrangement for the ceremony and can be taken home afterward. In addition, the veteran's name will be listed in the program and read aloud during the ceremony. To make the arrangements, call 646-1437.
